So long, and thanks for all the planets.

Better a Danubian catfish than a Denebian catfish. A Denebian Catfish is big. REALLY BIG! Considering that Deneb's diameter is 200 times that of our Sun, we could probably safely assume that a Denebian catfish would be big enough to swallow our entire planet.

……………… so I rarely post anything any longer...

Unless "GUEST,Lizzie Cornish" and "Lizzie Cornish 1" are different people, you seem to have had around 130 posts since the beginning of the year. Your definition of "rarely" must be different from mine.

I agree with all that you've said there, John. xx

And it needs to be changed, to be honest....

Welcome back Lizzie, I've missed you.
I do agree that the fact that mods are known, or named, give Mudcat a creepy big brother sort of feeling. A sort of "Them and us" atmosphere.
It also means that when they display their likes or dislikes, it adds bias to their viewpoint, whether it is pro, or con.
This lends their remarks gravitas, which in most cases, they do not deserve

And, I knew *exactly* what you were getting at with the title of this thread...(after I'd looked up what a 'Wels' actually was, of course).....

Just AMAZED it took others so long to work it out...

Rioutous Fun & Outrageous Outrage need to be brought back...'cos now, this place is SO Bloody Peaceful that it's becoming a Grave Yard!

Bring Back St. Trinians!!!!!!!!!
;0)

Well, I get fed up with that dingbat Greg F stalking me, John, so I rarely post anything any longer...especially as another Mudcat mod has frequently referred to me as a 'troll'....

Only so much anyone can take after a while, and when even a mod is allowed to get away with shit, well, no point in coming back very often really...

Shame, as once, Mudcat was a vibrant, pulsating community...where we could ALL be outrageous if we so chose...

Now it's filled with Moaning Minnies who love to keep everything Beige Bland and, for the most part, VERY boring...

Going the same way the BBC board went..and that too was once a vibrant place, where once, I was personally told by the wife of a leading folk singer, that she got up every morning to see what Diane and I were up to, with laughter bubbling out about what was going on and how we'd fight duals with each other...

Now though, the Internet Spoilsports have Spoilt so many places and everyone has to write like daleks...according to The Rules and Regulations and the Dictatorships of those who worship at the church of BeigeBlandAndBoring..

I miss the old days.....

Ah, gotcha now, JM. I would concur with regard to the UK contingent at least. Something to do with a high proportion those of us who remain having a greater facility with language than with imagination or kindness.

I originally came for lyrics, about 12 years ago, and remained for the evident companionship. I doubt that many would do likewise right now.

Sorry Richard I got me tenses in a twiddle there.
Point is, Mudcat seems to heve much fewer posts, and to have lost too many of the "good guys"
It seems to be the same "set" posting these days, especially down below.

Was just looking at the Terry Pratchett thread, and noting, how few of those posting on there, don't post here any more.

Large Wels caught in England

and Environment Agency factsheet

Don't you just love the fact that an official government body cannot spell "voracious"?

Again IIRC the Wels was introduced into several rivers in England and has proved to be a bit of a menace. The Zander I think was less successful.

Wels are a kind of very large catfish; last I knew they were on the increase. Has that changed, John?
