Subject: Info on: Fare Well to Dublin From: JedMarum Date: 05 Nov 99 - 11:39 AM I have a Wolftones CD with many wondeful songs about leaving (or having left) Ireland, and one of the prettiest begins something like: 'Fare thee well unti we meet again Down by the Liffey waters ...' The singer goes on to say goodbye to his freinds and the girls too, he talks of the great writers and their works, he talks of the city. Does anyone know the song, and if so what can you tell me about it? |

Subject: RE: Info on: Fare Well to Dublin From: Marki Date: 05 Nov 99 - 06:34 PM Hmmm, I believe it's called Farewell To Dublin. I have a gazillion Wolfe Tones cd's and it's on two of them. But it's also two different versions. On the cd "A Sense of Freedom" it's a lovely song, but on the cd "Across the Broad Atlantic" there's more verses, and it's positively depressing. Gosh, I love it. I don't know who wrote it (I think one of the Warfield Brothers, but don't quote me on that), although I think I may have that info in the liner notes at home. It's a great song that along with the likes of "Flight of Earls", gives a great feeling of what it was like to leave Ireland. I don't really know much about the song (i.e. why it was written, who inspired it, etc), but I do want to say it's nice to know there's other Wolfe Tones fans out there!!! |

It is actually a lovely, if melancholy, song. I have truely enjoyed this Wolfe Tones record. Go here: Lyr Add: FAREWELL TO DUBLIN (from Wolfe Tones)--JoeClone, 16-Nov-2009. |
