To all behind this: The new computer looks wonderful. Thank you all for making it possible. The touch-screen capabilities makes it much more handicapped accessible tan any I have ever owned. Our son, Chris, keeps me trying to gain some proficiency. Thank you to Maggie Dwyer, Kat laughing and so many more wonderful Mudcatters.

What this new computer means is that anything he sees on the screen that has an underline or color change to indicate it is a link, he can touch the screen at that point to open it. It doesn't need the mouse to do that kind of task.

Do you have or need a stylus to make precise touches on the screen? You can get them very inexpensively through places like Amazon. My son (Computer Science major at U of AZ) assures me that the best way to use touch screens is to develop the touch with your hand, but a stylus can help, if you can aim it accurately.

You'll have to tell is if the computer touch screen lets you enlarge items by touching in a couple of places on either side of the item in question and moving your hands apart (like you see on cell phone screens).

Thanks to you all. Just posted again but not sure if it went through. Worked with Dad for a bit today. We'll keep at it a bit at a time. Using simplicity of Windows 8 to Dad's advantage.

Chris, how does the computer look and feel? Did you try the touch screen functionality? Does it work well with his mouse, etc? Has he tried playing a DVD yet? And does it start up very quickly?

Got to worrying 'cause Art hasn't been seen around here for three weeks so I emailed Chris -- he said I could share this update.

Dad was doing very well until Sunday. He has another infection though it seems to be better controlled this time. Even so, he ended up going in the hospital yesterday. Not because it was so bad but because they couldn't get it to go away. Difference between my visit yesterday and talk today is huge improvement. He's at Good ShepherdHospital in Barrington, IL.

I just found this thread again after following the events of March and April, and chipping in a bit of cash. Hoping for the best now, as is everyone else.

My husband and I ride 150 miles every August to raise money for MS research. We will be riding Aug 3 & 4 this year; Art is one of the people I always think of. What an incredibly sucky disease.

To SRS: We ride bicycles ... 75 miles each day for 2 days. The rides are done all over the country; this is the Wisconsin version. Ours used to be known as the Best Dam Bike Tour, because it started in a town called Beaver Dam and passed a number of river dams along the way. Our team is still called Those Dam Kids.
