Subject: RE: Any Morris dance troops out today? From: Harmonium Hero Date: 06 May 13 - 01:05 PM Using the term 'troupe' with reference to Morris dancers can seriously injure your health; indeed, it might put your continued existence in jeopardy. Not sure about 'troops' though. Haven't heard that one before. 'Troupe' should only be used with reference to Fluffy Morris. The rest of us are called 'sides' or 'teams'. Don't ask why - it;s just the way the world works. JK |
Subject: RE: Any Morris dance troops out today? From: Harmonium Hero Date: 06 May 13 - 01:12 PM ....I think it might be because 'troupe' sounds too theatrical. Anybody got any other theories?JK |

Subject: RE: Any Morris dance troops out today? 5 of May 2013th From: Harmonium Hero Date: 06 May 13 - 06:11 PM It's what's officially known as Carnival Morris, but known in the morris world as Fluffy Morris. I'm not sure how widespread it is; I've always thought it was mainly a North West phenomenon, but could be wrong. It's supposed to have developed from Ladies' North West Morris. It's danced by girls with pom-poms, and is a competitive pastime JK |
