My first ever pigs ear festival......and the words to describe it???.....hell..I would need thousands.....it was everything and more ,described to me over the years.....by lovely friends...I could imagine just such a festival..hundreds of years ago...so historically..I felt time was reversed....I came home..with a sense of having been part of something amazing...I cannot describe adequately..the setting,pub,people..amazing music...atmosphere....and kindness I found.....The Rule Family..do just that....they do rule..in the most positive way..the whole festival....but so many more folk made it memorable for me..too..I am a newcomer...and not talented at that..apart from a few tipsy mumbles in the 7 stars..was I judged?...no...made to feel apart..no..welcomed...YES....and I owe all of this..to my initial encounter..with TDL...and the folks at the 7 stars...who I met by accident ,one Saturday.....three years ago.....so many folk I've met..and come to hugely respect and care for.....I was talking to Linda...and saying to her..that to you all..it's a wonderful time for you all..but that you may have forgotten..what it's like to be a part of a festival like this,for the first time.....the impact ,in this mad frenzied world..of the peace....the friendship readily given....age old traditions....it completely winded me...to be there..so my grateful thanks to everyone..for making a nervous newcomer feel welcome..my last thanks are to Gina...and the Kentish Horse Family.....it was grand to meet them..follow your dreams Gina....and we hope the next landlords,will carry on the Pigs Ear Festival.....respect and affection.....Gaynor.xxx

Thanks for all the kind comments about this year's Ale, which I have to admit was something of a cracker. Mostly due to the hard work of others rather than me.

Gina has promised she is only going to sell the tenancy of TKH to "nice people". So fingers crossed.

Keeping fingers, toes, eyes crossed that new landperson is ameanable to continuing the tradtion. Piggies is my favourite camping music festie.

Would like to add thanks to the Rule family for doing us proud again.
We witnesed the bogging down of the caravan, all those present offered what help we could, but two knights in shining armour appeared
Andy of Sloe Gin with spade muscles and good sense, and Richard Bridges with all kinds of kit from his caravan and enthuisiasm, we all thought they were great.
Sad about Gina, but she must look to her future. So its fingers ceossed all roud.

Oh what a lovely weekend! A great deal was drunk by all. The survivor session was particularly nice. Many thanks to the Rules for organising.

Not without its vicissitudes - 3 hours to get round the M25 from Crayford for starters, then needing to borrow a 4WD to get caravan onsite. Then what fule installed a sub in his van and let his girlfriend flatten the van battery with it? I think a TP2 pack may be necessary for additional battery power! Then the generator would not play (although I did fix it later) so I used the Volvo to trickle charge the battery and she seems to have objected to ticking over for a couple of hours in that she is still NOT running right (which made the tow home very annoying).

Twin Peaks (my twin-neck) played up on stage so setting the tone for what could easily have been the worst set we as a band have ever played (although several people were kind enough to say that they liked it which was very nice of them).

Departure was delayed (for over an hour) by an unhappy camper with a large caravan who was unlucky enough to bog one wheel of his motor mover in one of the few remaining parts of the campsite - just lining up to go out of the gate!

And so to the sombre note - Gina the landlady is leaving. Doubtless more news will be forthcoming but lets us all fervently hope that the incoming person will be happy for the event to continue.

I spoke with JB earlier - and we will all be on the field. It has been twice mown. So no carpark workshops this year. There will be a display of Sue's famous bread pudding from Thursday, but it may not last long.
I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Pete Twitchett's stroke. I saw it on here this afternoon. He's out of hospital, but will obviously be lying low for a while. Was so looking forward to seeing him, as he was down for M.C. duties on Sunday.

Wevva sites inconsistent but it looks as if Fri and Sat will be mostly OK despite a north wind. The Weather Channel and Accuweather both give Friday as nice all day.

I may be at the pub before 4 pm Thurs but PROMISE not to pitch before then!

Some re-wiring done but I am cogitating on the best way to re-route the TV aerial - ideally I'd like to use it as a radio aerial too but the TV shelf and the radio are opposite sides of the van!

Cosmetic bodge done on shower room. I'm going to have to rebuild most of that wall next winter but at least once I get the loo fitting out, the wall is flat and straight with no funny bits.

I have been on BBC weather, Accuweather, metcheck, the Weather Outlook and the Weather Channel. Friday is looking solid nice, Sat patchy. I think metcheck is the most pessimistic - but the $64,000 question is whether the field will be megasoggy after Tuesday and Wednesday.

Can't believe I can't find a fred about this - it's imminent!

Kicking orf with the "Dance 'till your trotters shake" ceilidh and a singalong for the more staid with Travelling Folk on Thursday 30th May.

Camping opens 4 pm Thursday (I believe).   

Highlights (?) of the weekend include Mumble Gumble featuring a large man in a loud shirt, and I think the Atlantic Gooseberries featuring ditto.

Oh, and possibly an exercise in errors (mmmm, statistical theory of random numbers) from the Arsey Four, champagne breakfasts in the carpark and the occasional Pimms workshop in the afternoons. And hangovers.

And so to Vanwatch. The guitar shelf was installed overwinter. The new overbed lights are in today and I only need one more 5w bulb to get them working. Funny, the low energy Chinese bulbs work in one side but not the other.

The wiring of the sub for the in-van lo-fi is proving problematical. A wiring diagram and some 30 amp twin would help.

In looking at wiring I think I have found one reason the 12V side of the 'fridge does not work. A fuse and fuseholder reduced to slag. Why that is so awaits a morn of discovery!

The conversion to red has not happened and nor has the strip and refit of the shower room. I may bodge a coverup to some of the shower room probs on the morrow after fighting with the Lo-Fi.

The installation of PA horns in the front cavity has not happened either . This is mostly needed later in the year when SOME people play Metallica loudly on their car radios - at folk camps. 200 watts of crumhorn goes a long way!
