Subject: BS: Hounslow Accomodation? From: GUEST,Lavengro Date: 31 May 13 - 11:38 AM Bit of a longshot here? Well actually a lot of a longshot. I am moving to Hounslow with work and now have a start date in just under two weeks. Basically I am looking for accommodation in the area (probably a room in a shared house to make it economically possible) and thought I would post here as at least that means we might have one shared interest (Folk). Me- • Male, 40's moving to a "professional" role in local government on a two year contract • I would intend going home 8 weekends out of ten • Non-smoker, except when I dress up as Fidel Castro at fancy dress events. • Favourite book-Desolation Angels, Jack Kerouac • Favourite film-Seven Samurai • Favourite quote- "Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere." MLK Anyway, enough of "date my house". If you know anyone with a room etc. or if you can help in any way, even if that is suggesting some decent letting agents, areas to go for/ avoid or whatever I would really appreciate it. I have already had some help on here with club locations etc. so fingers crossed on this one? ATB, Lavengro. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hounslow Accomodation? From: GUEST Date: 01 Jun 13 - 05:09 AM Can't help directly but some additional info would be helpful. What sort of commute are you willing to put up with? Driving or public transport? Working close to a station? Shifts or 9 to 5? |
Subject: RE: BS: Hounslow Accomodation? From: My guru always said Date: 01 Jun 13 - 06:01 AM Alas we are about 30 miles away in Leatherhead so unlikely to be able to help, it would be a difficult commute. Lavengro: Keep refreshing this thread, you never know, someone more local might pop up! Good luck! |
Subject: RE: BS: Hounslow Accomodation? From: GUEST,Lavengro Date: 01 Jun 13 - 08:00 AM Thanks both, appreciate the advice. In regard to the additional questions. Would prefer it to be as close as possible as I want to get a good feel for the community I will be working in. Driving. Not really, and multi site(ish) And lastly 9-5. Thanks again. |

Subject: RE: BS: Hounslow Accomodation? From: GUEST,Chris B (Born Again Scouser) Date: 04 Jun 13 - 04:24 AM I lived in the Hounslow area for 40 years. I'd give the Hounslow Sikh Temple a call or (probably better) email them. Several members of the Sikh community in the area own properties for let. Wonderful people as well. The Hindu temples and the Mosques are worth a try as well though I don't know those communities as well as I know the Sikhs. St Mary's College in Twickenham is somewhere you might consider placing an advert. Probably best if you go down and put up a notice or see if you can post one on a website that will be read by faculty members or mature students looking for people to share. Other colleges aren't a bad bet either. There are several moorings for houseboats in the area on both the Thames and on the Grand Union Canal. There's a site called something like apolloduck.co.uk that advertises sales and lets for houseboats. Might be a cheaper alternative. There are moorings at Isleworth, Kew Bridge, Brentford and Hanwell. Whitton, Feltham, Brentford, Hanwell, Southall, Cranford and Heston are all areas that with a bit of luck are still fairly affordable. Parts of Isleworth aren't too bad. Osterley, Chiswick, Twickenham, Kingston and Ealing are all within reach but are likely to be more expensive. Richmond is an arm and a leg and isn't nearly as nice a place to live as it thinks it is. By the way, there's apparently a decent Irish session nowadays at the Prince Albert on the Hounslow Road in Whitton. Good luck! |
