Two songs it could be are 'The Band in the Park' and 'Marching'.They are available on the vinyl LP 'The Band in the Park' which is still to be found at record fairs.

Could it be;

Marching

I joined up in the army They said I was a clown
and so to teach me soldiering they marched me up and down

Letters from Wilfred (Owen)
As sung by Alan Bell on "The Definitive Collection" (2005)

I thank you, my dear mother; your letter came today.
I'm pleased to hear you're in good health, for I've much to tell and say.
