Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Aug 13 - 11:37 PM Hi, Elmore - all obits start in the top section, then the non-music ones get moved down when they're noticed by a moderator. I try to standardize obit titles by adding occupations and birth/death dates. Not to worry. Mr. Ansara was born in Syria in 1922. He played the first Kligon to appear in the original Star Trek series. He was married to Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie) from 1958 to 1974. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: Ebbie Date: 03 Aug 13 - 03:58 AM I presume that no one here is directly impacted by the loss of Michael Ansara (good actor though) so I'll segue here and say that Ansara is not who I was thinking of. The one I was recalling was/is Armenian, is a junior and is a good writer. I was thinking that this was his name. Anyone know who I had in mind? |

Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: GUEST,Tumesmith Date: 03 Aug 13 - 08:09 AM He was great as a "baddie". I recall, recently, seeing Michael in a bit part in a 1950s western, and thinking that he deserved much bigger roles. Checking up, I see that he made 45 movies in the 50s alone ( that's an average of 4.5 movies a year!). |
Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: Elmore Date: 03 Aug 13 - 10:26 AM Joe: Thanks for the explanation about the obituaries. Guess I'll go to a meeting of fussy old geezers anonymous today. |
Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: Elmore Date: 03 Aug 13 - 10:31 AM Ebbie: They're not Armenian, but could you be thinking of Alan and Adam Arkin? |
Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: catspaw49 Date: 03 Aug 13 - 11:05 AM Where were you people in the 50's? One of the most popular westerns was named "Broken Arrow" and Michael Ansara played the Apache, Cochise. He was great! I saw him in other things over the years including Star Trek but to me he was Cochise forever. Handsome man and a fine actor. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: sciencegeek Date: 03 Aug 13 - 11:32 AM Right On, Spaw!!! Hubby & I were just talking about that when we heard the news... he was also great as the TechnoMage in Babylon 5. Always gave a great performance... but, yes, Cochise forever... |
Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Aug 13 - 02:24 PM He was married to Barbara Eden for many years, as one of Hollywood's beautiful couples. SRS |
Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Aug 13 - 02:27 PM Was his character named "Kang" (a captive Klingon captain) in the original Star Trek? That name popped into my head, but I'm not going to browse IMDb this morning. SRS |
Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: Ebbie Date: 03 Aug 13 - 02:28 PM Found him! The man I was thinking of is Michael ARLEN. Good writer, son of another writer. Glad it isn't him. |
Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: Mrrzy Date: 03 Aug 13 - 03:36 PM He lived a long life - great for Ansara, shameful for Kang. One role will never be forgotten. Glad he made it so far! |
Subject: RE: Obit: R.I.P. Actor Michael Ansara (1922-2013) From: Don Firth Date: 03 Aug 13 - 07:19 PM From the age of six on, I was a gung-ho follower of "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" in the funny papers. In the less than spectacular "Buck Rogers" television series (which I looked forward to it with great anticipation, but unfortunately, it was a sort of bargain basement "Star Trek"), one of the high spots of the series was that Michael Ansara played "Killer Kane," Buck's arch-enemy. Killer Kane and his "girlfiend" Ardala first appeared in the comic strip way back. Actually, Buck's real arch-enemy was Ardala, who sort of led Killer Kane around by the nose. They had a kind of MacBeth and Lady MacBeth relationship. But Michael Ansara was a most menacing presence! Ardala and Killer Kane. Ansara was a fairly handsome dude without all the menacing make-up: CLICKY. Don Firth |
