Subject: Deal 2013 From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 12 Sep 13 - 03:41 AM Anyone know whats on? I found a web site but could not read it. FloraG |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 From: GUEST Date: 12 Sep 13 - 03:53 AM The website appears to have been taken down so either it has been cancelled or the webmaster has screwed up. The website parking page is just ads, if you are using an adblocker you might have seen a blank page |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 From: GUEST Date: 12 Sep 13 - 11:58 AM nice place Deal- does anything happen there? |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 From: Mr Happy Date: 13 Sep 13 - 04:14 AM There's a fb page, here: https://www.facebook.com/dealfolkfestival?ref=stream |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 13 Sep 13 - 04:39 AM Thanks - I still can't read the programme. FloraG |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 From: Mr Happy Date: 13 Sep 13 - 06:40 AM I've asked them to enlarge it, you could too! |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 From: Mr Happy Date: 13 Sep 13 - 07:08 AM Alternatively, copy/paste to a word page & zoom |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 13 Sep 13 - 09:50 AM Thanks. Bigger would be good. I've not used face book. Still a bit of a mystery how to send messages. I tried a copy and zoom - but still not very clear on the print. We are booked elsewhere on the friday night so we are looking for the saturday and sunday programme in particular. Deal has always been one of my favourite late season events. I don't like to think how many years ago it was that I organised with Pete May to get the morris side down. On Countryfile a local Deal Photographer found water rats and kingfishers near where we camp. Sighting would be an added bonus. FloraG |

Subject: RE: Deal 2013 From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 14 Sep 13 - 05:33 AM I can read it now. I copied it to word and printed it sideways on. It looks a bit short of participatory things to do on the Saturday and Sunday evening. Going to a Ceildith would be a bit too much like a busmans holiday as were doing one on the Friday evening. Any suggestions? FloraG. |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 From: Mr Happy Date: 14 Sep 13 - 05:40 AM 'Ceildith'? |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 14 Sep 13 - 06:23 AM I copied what I thought I read from the programme. Still not 100% clear on my print out. We are running a barn dance on the Friday ( but in a school hall - not a barn). The gallic version implies lots of variety - a bit more like a session. We shall only be doing lots of called dances and a raffle to raise money for the girls doing ' world challenge'. (A bit like VSO.) I think it has become the fashion to mis name barn dances. FloraG |
Subject: Deal Festival Sep 20-22 2013 From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Sep 13 - 05:52 PM Who's there and where and when? I'll be camped from the Friday until the Sunday and generally haunting the sessions... I infer that Bishop Gundulf will be there. |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 [20-22 Sep] From: GUEST,jim bainbridge Date: 19 Sep 13 - 05:22 AM ceilidh = Scottish ceili = Irish that's it simply- would suggest English dances be called something else and avoid spelling problems-barn dance or does that imply check shirts and spurs?- also suggest abolition of the much-abused term- 'craic'!!! enjoy the dance in Deal anyway. My first visits to Scottish ceilidhs in the 60s were a surprise in that there was little if any dancing- I'm not a Gaelic speaker, and was told that the word actually means 'gathering' so there doesn't HAVE to be any dancing at all! |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 [20-22 Sep] From: Mr Happy Date: 19 Sep 13 - 07:11 AM What's 'gallic' ? |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 [20-22 Sep] From: melodeonboy Date: 19 Sep 13 - 09:13 AM It's the adjective that refers to Gaul (although usually with a capital "G", I assume). It may be used, in modern parlance, to refer to France or things French. |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 [20-22 Sep] From: Mr Happy Date: 19 Sep 13 - 09:40 AM Surely the adjective that refers to Gaul is 'Gaulish' |

Subject: RE: Deal 2013 [20-22 Sep] From: GUEST,synbyn Date: 19 Sep 13 - 12:35 PM I'm glad I don't play scrabble with you, Flora... Bobx |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 [20-22 Sep] From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 20 Sep 13 - 03:36 AM And to think Bob, there would be all those extra words for your songs if only you had the celtic lingoes. Enjoy your songwriting course this weekend. Try to catch the Wilsons tonight with Sting on Jules Holland. Fationistas of the folk world - and quite good at singing too. FloraG |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 [20-22 Sep] From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 25 Sep 13 - 04:00 AM Thanks to all the organisers who put in a lot of time for the event to happen. FloraG |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 [20-22 Sep] From: The Barden of England Date: 25 Sep 13 - 04:12 AM I really enjoyed myself so a big thank you to the organisers. Well done. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 [20-22 Sep] From: Richard Bridge Date: 25 Sep 13 - 05:00 AM It seemed to me it was much better this year. |
Subject: RE: Deal 2013 [20-22 Sep] From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 25 Sep 13 - 05:06 AM Next year is 25 year birthday of the bandstand. I wonder how appropriate it would be to have a 3 day festival leading up to it? FloraG |
