What's interesting is how one of these generic bitch threads starts, this one with Bobert's eloquent first post:
"Well???"
then becomes a free-for-all for various one-track minds to show off their one-trick ponies. This one was the most recent: BS: Reinforcing respectful 'boundaries' It wobbled around Zimmerman/Martin, marriage equality, and posting styles/points of view. There were possibly other gravitational pulls, but I'd guessed where it was headed and only looked in occasionally to see if I'd been right. And yes, it ended up with Ake talking about buttfucking and HIV.

I'm tempted to combine these no-particular-subject-except-fighting threads, but I might get some of that stuff on me. As for moderation and "personal attacks", there is a difference between arguing with someone about something they've said and coming in, out of the blue, to say something like "You're a troll, and I'm going to fuck you up." The latter is obviously a personal attack, but people who argue with people just because of who they are... it might be, but there are too many people who like to do that to try to be the bad-guy grown-up. Then there are people who argue with others because of what they say/do. The difference between a personal attack and arguing with someone isn't defined the same way for everyone, and it never will be. Some folks don't even see they have a part in the nastiness.

I suppose it might be a good point for whomever's interested to start side-betting on who's going to successfully takeover this thread.

Yeah, I doubt very much if either Ake or I have all this power to effect the number of posts here at Mudcat...

In other words??? Guess again...

Me a troll??? That's funny...

" The rule on personal attacks was a good one, and should be reinstated without delay."

Is the first sentence of that post a personal attack?

I am amazed with all the verbal abuse that goes on these days, that anyone dares post an opinion on here......and before any abuse is directed at me, coat's on and I'm away down the road!

When you attack another person, you say more about yourself than about them.

Pity there's no rule on telling huge lies to prop up criminal views then.

As do people like Ian above, who only come here to snipe and abuse and have very little of value to contribute, other than to reinforce his own limited agenda.

Jeri....I am much aggrieved to be coupled in your post with Bobert, who is a notorious "troll", who believes in nothing and simply comes here to cause trouble!! :0)......get a grip......Bobert is great for this forum, sure he cusses sometimes, but hardly ever gets personal, and any fool can tell that everything he says comes straight from the heart.

What you personally find interesting or important, is not necessarily shared by everyone here.....the threads on homosexual "marriage" ran into several thousands, and the debate is still wide open regarding MsM health rates.
Political threads are also very important to most of us....I just wish we could drop most of the partisan stuff which gets in the way of open debate.

As do people like Ian above, who only come here to snipe and abuse and have very little of value to contribute, other than to reinforce his own limited agenda.

Most folks here are turned off by the really bad abusive stuff like death wishes or the using of silly childish names over and over again.
These people just can't help themselves, what they lack in intellect and understanding, they pad out with abuse.

The rule on personal attacks was a good one, and should be reinstated without delay.

Of course as usual Akenaton has his finger on the button.

All the fault of those damned liberal types eh? If it wasn't for them, people could waffle all day below the line without others pointing out when they are posting bigoted disgusting views that make decent people want to throw up.

Zzzzzzzzz

I do agree that it would be grand to actually discuss things in a rational and civilized manner, without partisan issues, personalities, and "agendas" constantly being hammered upon.

Anyone who disagrees is obviously a deviant dolt with a mind awash is naught but scum and drivel, and they also pick their nose and eat it.

Sheesh Jeri, there is absolutely no doubt but that the lack of numbers of BS threads - and top-of-the-line threads - is because the Mudcat has been off-line a high proportion of the last week.

The rest of what you said is true, but conjecturing on the latter is not. That is my take on it.

The levels of stupid and obsessive are pretty high. Bobert and Ake, people can predict what you and some other BSers going to say before you say it... in apparently infinite ways, over and over. You line up along political lines. You speak from your personal scripts. There's nothing new, and while it's comfortable for a few, it's both painfully repetitive and highly annoying. Some people like to hear the figurative sound of their own voices so much they don't notice when everyone else has left the room. There isn't much interesting in the BS section. I miss the wit and intelligence, I miss reading posts from people who wanted to inspire others and play with them instead of dominate. I miss BS threads that aren't fights about what you most hate. I miss "silly" and am sick of "inane". But if you guys want to hump the BS section into the ground, just keep it up. I know some folks have left because of the nastiness. Some have left because of the embarrassingly stupid.

Oh yeah-- some of the lack of numbers of BS threads may be due to Mudcat being off-line for a while.

naaawwww... the Cat has been down off & on, and fewer posts show for a certain date.... and always fewer on a weekend. There does seem to be 'some' reduction, but wait till Tuesday.

I think it is part of a general reduction in Mudcat usage. As I write this, there are 23 threads above the line and 13 below. A couple of years back, these numbers would both be more like 50-70. The Facebook Mudcat page no doubt has taken some of the activity away. Our average age may be getting higher too and our membership numbers are probably reducing (just a guess, I have nothing to support this). I still dip in a few times every week, but certainly less frequently than I used to. It may be that technology has moved on. This does not mean that this system is facing imminent demise, but it may become more specialist/scholarly in nature/content.

I think it would be a shame Bob, but cant help feeling that certain guests and some members have been trying hard to get it shut down for months.
The lack of posting could well be because the political situation is not working out very well for the majority of posters here most of whom are "liberals" and Democrats?

I just wish we could get down to proper discussion without being ruled by party agendas....we are all old acquaintances, if not friends, and we should be able to debate without being abusive.
