There's a terrific interview with Linda Thompson on Salon.com which is well worth a read. In it she discusses her new, much folkier, record - though this piece is far more than just a PR-puff. Some of the other musicians on it include the Carthys (Martin on guitar, Eliza on harmony) and, on the opening track, the redoubtable Richard; plus assorted members of the family.

Linda talks a lot about the music itself, coping with dysphonia and its effects, the value of family, friendships with the McGarrigle/Wainwright clan, Emmylou, and more besides. What a brilliant, down-to-earth lady she is.

Full marks to Rick Moody too, for such intelligent and insight-producing questions. (Thompson herself actually compliments him on this.) Her new album is definitely on my to-buy list.

Thanks for that Bonnie! Really illuminating interview, as you say. Apart from the singing, which I've always loved, I like Linda as a person cos she's totally un-diva-ish.

I'm off to order the album (cripes, that's about 6 this month - who says the CD's dead?)

Not among folkies, it isn't!
