Yeah, right, Gnu. Last year while I was was giving my polite but firm pre-exam speech I mentioned the euphemism "comfort break". The class clown (there's usually one) scoffed "Comfort break!!". To which I retorted "If ya desperate for a slash!!". No more clowning and at the end of the exam one of the girls thanked me for putting them at ease.
Apparently I'm the only invigilator who introduces themselves by their first name.
Generally speaking the 'kids' are fine and I enjoy the work. Sometimes, however, I do wonder if there'll be much of a future for them.
Anyway, a happy return by myself and much appreciation from Dunfermline Charlie.
PS My stepson-in-law says I should walk round the corner to The Folk Club at the Thistle!

Glad it went okay.

I used to work and pay little attention while invigilating uni exams. Who's gonna cheat at that level of acedemia? Then... I saw it happen. I was incensed. I stared. I glared. Students began to take note and the gasps drew that attention of the foul transgressors. They acted as if nothing had happened and I felt it was best to say nothing and disregard it. Then... one looked at me and gave me a dirty look... a SNEER! Well, that just pissed me off.

Whilst marking their exam papers, I wrote on the front pages of each : This student was observed by myself and a number students to be blatantly cheating with Mr. XXXXX X. XXXXX at 37 minutes into the exam. Note the mistake of each in 4)b and the obvious collusion between them. I have decided to judge thir exams on their performance after 4)b and shall not persure their expulsion from UNB. Instead, I have advised faculty to have them separated during future exams. Expulsion is faculty's decision. A list of students who also witnessed their cheating has been submitted to faculty and I have a filed copy. Note that each of these gentleman acheived a passing grade on the remaining problems but have received a grade of D, requiring them to repeat the course. Should they object, I recommend immediate expulsion.

Got their attention!

Happy belated Hogmanay to you all !! There can be no excuses for not writing. Much apologies. Singapore was fine but the actual holidays a little down. Three days in Cambodia was, I must say, the highlight and yes, Will ,I did have a Singapore Sling in raffles. Mu son-in-law paid and expressed shock at the cost. He got his revenge by eating all the peanuts.
I hope everybody is ok and apologize again for my tardiness.
Exams start soon at the local college here in Dunfermline and I shall be invigilating once more. Yes, I shall be that b****rd who walks up and down and looks over shoulders. Actually I sit with my feet up and read or do mu Grauniad xword.
All the very best and thank you all once more. I am getting there.
Charie x

best wishes to you from another spending the holiday season in temperatures around 90 in the old numbers, also with high humidity (but no downpours!)

Do as I do - find a cool spot keep out of the sun. When you are outside always wear a strong sunblock & enjoy your visit without letting the weather win.

I see UK & European backpackers all the time burnt red as they don't realise the power of the Australian sun - & the Singapore sun is closer to the equator!

All the best for Xmas. If you bump into a British bloke in a bar complaining the beer is too cold and the crispy baby crabs not a patch on pork scratchings, you may have met my brother, also visiting relatives for Xmas.....

I have spent Christmas in Singapore ( Loyang , near RAF Changi , 1967 ) ; it was a bit surreal , eating a full English traditional Christmas Dinner sitting outside on a verandah, wearing just shorts and flip-flops , but very enjoyable despite the heat and humidity !! So go for it ,Charlie ,and have a great time (and keep an eye out for Bombay Runners, Kampong Dogs ,and Chit-Chats !).

I am flying to Singapore soon to spend the holiday season with some of my family. This is just to say, once more , a thank you to all of you who sent kind words at my loss.
Things are gong as well as can be expected and the amount of 'Red Tape' to be dealt with is a form of distraction.
Christmas in 90 degree heat with added downpour will be totally new to me and may, hopefully take the edge off my first Christmas on my own.
My very best wishes to you all and my thanks again.
Charlie (fB)
