A request for the words of a song from our local pub landlady.
It begins:

Goodnight my friends, I'm very glad to see so many here
Who comes from that dear island every Irishman holds dear

Chorus
My name is Mickey Maloney, I'm from Miltown....

That's it, I'm afraid - totally new one on me.
Any help would be very much appreciated

Looks a bit like one of the great mass of Irish/American songs, but I don't recognise it. And, the song 'Put more turf on the fire Mary-Ann' starts with 'My name it is Mickey Moloney.'

I suspect this might be a locally made song, but I'm not sure where it was local to - if it was.
There are dozens of emigration songs in this area made by unnamed local people, about having to leave home - we named our CD of Clare singers, 'Around the Hills of Clare' after one of them.
The reference to Miltown (Milltown) suggests that it could have come from around here and, like so many other local songs, never moved anywhere else.
The lady who asked for it is a local publican, but she was following an inquiry from a customer from Cork, so it could be from there - or from Kerry, of from any of the half dozen other Counties with a Milltown.
