We need new words to bully in the alley, appropriate to girls 11-16 or so around the world...a couple want to record it for our new cd of girls that age (assuming I don't cancel it at Rainycamp if I have absolutely no songs actually recorded by then..I have been very unsuccessful at this so far). Words must be appropriate, could address the bullying issue that girls face (and cause), but I mostly want them to be inoffensive, neutral, encouraging if possible. I have tried with one of the girls to come up with new words but we were not getting far with this. Could really use some help. There must be no copyright issues, no expectations of money, acknowledgement etc...going to be freely distributed and probably won't have covers etc....so you won't get rich or famous for helping with this but you might help get this moribund project off the ground.

And if you know of girls ages 11-16 or so..I have had to adjust the ages..who want to be on this, especially if they are immigrants, reside in developing countries etc., let me know. I must know what the lyrics mean in whatever language. Must be no copyright laws involved. No religion, nothing even mildly risque etc. Recordings should sound pretty clear, but do not have to be professionally recorded. We do have a sound engineer that can clean up a bit of static etc. Most important is to hear from the girls..would love songs to be encouraging, hopeful etc...another thing..many girls have experienced bad trauma..tsunamis, refugee camps etc. but songs should not be specific to any trauma.

It's gonna be hard, because "bully" doesn't even mean the same as the original. The rhythm of the song and the way the verses are phrased are not easy to adapt to the concept you need.

*shrug*.. maybe someone who writes & composes can prove me wrong...

Well, mg, I admit that if you're going to sing this to girls ages 12-16, you need new lyrics. How are you going to explain "Sally is the girl that I spliced nearly" to teenage girls?

Good luck.

Joe - To 'get spliced' means to get married, so that shouldn't be too big a problem. But as for re-writing.......

The lyrics I googled do not sound bawdy to me at all, but you may double check for double entendres. If gender is the main problem, you may try something like:

Help me, Jane, I'm bully in the alley,
Way, hey, bully in the alley!
Help me, Jane, I'm bully in the alley,
Bully down in Shinbone Al!

Ally is the guy that I love dearly,
Way, hey, bully in the alley.
Ally is the guy that I spliced nearly.
Bully down in Shinbone Al!

Help me, Jane, ...

For seven long years I courted handsome Ally,
Way, hey, bully in the alley.
But all he did was dilly and dally.
Bully down in Shinbone Al!

Help me, Jane, ...

If I ever get back, I'll marry handsome Ally,
Way, hey, bully in the alley.
Have six kids and live in Shinbone Alley.
Bully down in Shinbone Al!
