Its been a hoot but I am out of patience.

I've enjoyed a lot of conversations.

If any of you want to converse with me you can find me here.

https://www.facebook.com/robert.dale.7946

In case anyone is wondering why I was so interested in the subject, I am writing a novel that deals with non-belief, believers and gullible believers. Once the name calling died down here a few weeks ago.

I have heard from Mudcat leadership. I was told to avoid the BS section and to "fight my own battles" draw from that what you will.

I might check in here once in a while, if I still can. But I am not counting on being able to.

Good luck to you all. and God bless you.

In case anyone is wondering why I was so interested in the subject, I am writing a novel that deals with non-belief, believers and gullible believers. Once the name calling died down here a few weeks ago, got all the material I needed. Thanks to all who took the conversations seriously.

Thanks to all the dogmatists as well. Lots of material there to.

There may be a POV character who is a poor beleagured professional in health care as well. But I don't know of that will survive the final edit.

Cheers all.

Far more interesting characters around here than that Jack! Keep the novel in The USA or Canada. Your characters can more open, honest and take as you find. Far too many complicated buggers with issues over here.

If you need any help with name calling, I can supply a list of names based on any character that put name calling on another level. It brings people out of themselves.

If you are researching a novel, best to observe rather than influence, if you want the advice of someone who hasn't a novel in him. Though I've read a few. Some on the pages of Mudcat but that's another story.

(The self term "professional in healthcare" by the way was what you would term British irony. On the same level as me being "fucking important " and aimed at the same character. Now, if you wove his mindset into a character!   Not complicated, everything black and white... Easy and disturbing at the same time!

I can't help myself. Sorry and all that.

Have fun.

Gee... Amos has written a novel, and he's almost gone... & Little Hawk & Bobert & several others have essentially left. I, personally, don't care much for the Facebook format and only look at it once or twice a week.

I guess I'll soon be down here 'almost' by myself... *shrug*

Hi, Pete...

I wish you great luck with your endeavour in the art of extreme prose.
It's rather arduous but, given your tenacity and skills, I'd bet cash that you will do well.

A lot more than that have left and far more than those choose only to post to certain threads or even open certain types of threads. Good? Bad? Who cares? I like Facebook. It's far more civilized. I have never had to shout a negative response there because nobody has been out of line. Not one. Herein, I have been shit upon, lied about, had my own words actually quoted and called down for it when the opposite was true, trolled, stalked... you name it. Goes with the turf. What happens at recess on the playground is just that. Even when I stand up for myself and others, I get shit upon for that. And that is precisely why I will never leave.

gnu, mudcat has allowed the Below the Belt section to operate without editing, allowing free rein to those acephalics inclined towards trashing people, without making any useful contribution on their part.

I try to ignore the trash from these 'trash' but it is difficult. I can understand why JtS is leaving.

Unfortunately, there is no attempt to eliminate these acephalics from mudcat.

One man's acephalic is another man's honest straight talker, and if you are agin trashing people, you have a peculiar way of showing it by cloaking YOUR ad hominem in fifty dollar words.

Pathetic and not orthy of one who is obviously pretty wel educated.

BTW, "Gullible's Travels" is already taken. It's the title used for a book by Billy Connolly.

I think you are wrong to leave Jack.....that is what these people want.
Open discussion is anathema to them, insults and name calling are their weapons, religion and social conservatism their targets.
Their aim to destroy this section of the forum, by trivialising every issue which brings their agenda into question.

If your mind is made up, I add my thanks for your crusade to keep this great little forum, civil, reasonable, and free....Ake

"free rein" isn't entirely correct. There have been guests and members chucked out entirely but those were extreme cases. In a few instances, they got chucked out after some members threatened legal actions. So, actually, the past several years haven't been as bad as it once may have been. I have been accused of reacting in a rash and very unsavoury manner to some (IMO) 'trash' in the last several years but I was here during some of the very, very, very nasty shit that went on and I have ZERO tolerance of such. When someone crosses the line, I act. Those that say I over react may not know why I do so. Should I? Should I not? Who cares?

Me.

I've got two heads and neither work properly some days. TMI? TB.

BTW... didja see Swamp People last episode? 400# 'beast'? Fer fuck sake, that gator wasn't much over 40#. I mean, *I* coulda whooped that little riggin with an alder and fried it up in my big iron frying pan in two fries. Buddy carried it away on his shoulders. And he looks my age. The guy, not the gator. Although, I ain't much of a judge on how old gators are. I ain't never even seen a gator but on yer TV. I have been stalked by black bears that weighed over 600#. I have been within ten feet of moose that weighed over 1000#... used to feed one sugar and beets just cause he was soooo cool... Ralph was a MONSTER! I have been chased by a pack a yotes and our yotes weigh up to 60#. A course, even a 40# gator would scare me unless I had a backup, poles, guns, a camera crew and an announcer that didn't say it was a 400# monster... or an alder and a knife. Meanwhile, back in Bayou Sorrel.....

It is always sad to see people leave, but most of the time they always get a few warnings.

If they don't heed the warnings they sometimes get zapped. I don't always agree with this and many times I have spoken out and suggested that we just forget these problems.

but two things come into play.

1. The people causing the problems just won't shut up.

and

2. The people who object, just won't shut up.

I would suggest that a policy of tolerance might work here .

If people won't shut up, then we should ignore the silly buggers.

Got this from Ronny Cox on Facebook

Two women were in a bar and they had such strong accents. I asked ... "Are you ladies from Ireland?' They turned to and said... 'It's Wales, you idiot',
So I said are you two whales from Ireland? That's the last I remember.

You see, some people get confused as to which side of the pond someone lives on when reading their posts.

The joke Jack just made is a way of knowing. The last line "that's the last I remember" can only be from the American shore. It would be superfluous in Blighty.

Here Jack, me old mucker. I wouldn't get paranoid like, but you said you MIGHT be going and everyone is waving goodbye to you. Most of us are doing so rather true to form too.

It seems to me that some of you are far, far too sensitive. If someone persistently screamed in my face in the street, I'd have a problem. If someone persistently screamed in my face on here then it means nothing and I would ignore them - it's only a message-board, for God's sake! Some of the posters on here have some very interesting ideas and opinions that I want to hear - others insist on starting fights and feuds - they're just a nuisance - and some of them need to grow up!

just don't expect it to be the same if you return. other people get fed up and move on. I really miss some of the people I used to talk with regularly on mudcat. the truth is, mudcat's continued existence depends on some of us rolling with the punches and putting up with those of us who can't manage to disagree without resorting to abuse.

Wha???? And this from the biggest jackass of 'em all! A man who resorted to the quite ghastly tactic of starting a thread about me in order to somehow understand me... Shamed me into decency so it did, you swine!

So - go, or stay as it suits you, or do like most of us do, which is to keep popping back as & when we're in town... but to bask in the duck-billed platitudes of your own obituary thread seems to me a tad indulgent when all you've made a point of courting controversy even if it is by way of literary research. Which is cool in my book, it's been a lot of fun, and very civilised fun at that, but don't forget it was you who turned the heat up in that particular kitchen - he who sows the wind & all that...

Hope the book's half as much fun as the threads anyway, JtS!

the jackasses who post in B.S. and there are quite few and they know who they are

Do they? It's always intriguing that the badly-done-tos who bleat out that "the jackasses know who they are" are never up for naming names. Perhaps a "jackass" is just "a person who disagrees with my rather ill-considered post and who has deigned to tell me so in less than uncertain terms". Personally, I think the biggest jackasses, apart from the few serial bigots we have, are the serial misrepresenters of other people's contributions. The initiator of this thread is certainly one such. If there's anything more bloody annoying, for example, than someone who accuses you over and over and over again of claiming to be something you've never claimed to be, do tell me about it!

Some people are so self-absorbed they think everything is about them. Have a look at the thread immediately preceding the one you quoted from the one and only last remaining Mudcat troll. Or at least he would be trolling if he was still allowed. Who do you think I was referring to when I said "jackasses"

Jack, I didn't start the thread about you. I started it about one little opinion that you expressed that I found insulting. Do you think that you opinions expressed on the Bull Shit section of a folw music internet forum are you? If so that may be the reason you get so upset.

Steve Shaw. You are seem to be addressing me and trying to convince me of something. When are you going to get it through your think skull that I don't give a phlying phuck what you think. I was holding back on you in hopes that you would calm down and be polite. I can see now that is not possible for you. I am not calling you a Jackass. You by quoting and ranting about jackasses and trying to communicate with someone you have called "whacko" far too many times are calling yourself a Jackass. Do yourself a favor, if someone is complaining about the behavior of an unspecified few, stop poking your head up and saying "that jackass is me" You are just not that important very few care what you say, so it probably isn't you.
