Subject: BS: Encouraging Thoughts for Zany Mouse
From: GUEST,MCP
Date: 15 Mar 14 - 10:10 AM

Zany Mouse has been in hospital for the last few weeks and could do with some cheering thoughts.

She collapsed a few weeks ago with a heart rate of 160 and was taken into hospital. The next day her blood pressure dropped to half it's normal value (bad enough for them to call me in) and she spent the next three days in intensive care. (She'd had an eye problem caused by her lupus and nearly lost the sight in her right eye over Christmas. That was being treated with massive doses of steroids and the eye recovered, but they think it effectively shut down her body's own production of steroids and lead to an Addison's crisis. They also think she either had or was very near to a heart attack; they don't seem sure on that point).

Anyway, she's medically stable now but still hasn't enough leg power to stand and has to spend the next three to six weeks in a care home getting physio to fix that. Consequently she's feeling a bit disheartened at not being able to get home yet and could do with some cheering up. If you could post and encouraging thoughts for her she'd be grateful.

Mick

Lupus is a mysterious disease. Some get by lightly while others get whammed. I was diagnosed with it in 1966 and again in 1976 as a different phase of it. In '76 it was sent into remission and I really have had no problems with it in the four decades since. So there is hope.

Zany Mouse (love your name!), roll with the punches, rest as much as you can, look for the tiniest glimmer of light- it will get bigger and brighter.

I think that a very important component of progress in combating this disease is trust in your physicians, if only because oneself is too exhausted to navigate on one's own. There is so much more known about Lupus these days than it was in my time with it. In the 70s I was told that there was only one hospital/teaching facility that devoted itself to it (in Colorado; I was in Oregon) while now there are whole bodies of information.

Many thanks for posting this Mick, I'm so sorry to hear that Rhiannon has been so very poorly. You must look after yourself properly to stay strong, you must be feeling quite worn out with the worry and rushing around!

Rhiannon Dear, we are thinking of you here at Old Keepers where the sun is shining and I hope that you enjoying the knowledge that Spring has arrived. Smile at the sunshine and look forward to the day when you can walk away from the care home.

Sending you (and Mick) positive thoughts, love & hugs,
Hil & Richard xxx

Be patient, be kind :) both to yourself. It is easy to get downhearted or frustrated but by concentrating on the task of the moment you will soon find that everything has changed.

Great advice as always from Megan, which I second. Don't beat yourself up over what you *can't* do, but let your mind & spirit relax while you heal. It will come, sure as spring. Focusing in on something - anything - constructive or enjoyable is a good way to do that.

All of us here are thinking of you, cheering you on. You'll be back in gear before you know it! Love, B x

I am SO very sorry ZM. when you're under the cosh -its no fun. at the moment Denise is going through tough times with her rheumatoid arthritis.

at times like this, we just have to cling to all the stuff that cheers us up, and wait for the doctor to find stuff that turns a few keys. is there an arthritis support group in your area? denise used to run one in Mansfield. several of our best mates had lupus. as someone said - its a very up and down business....
we had so many pals in the same boat. we still chat to them on the phone, even though we moved away from the area four years back.
if an album would cheer you up -send me your address.

thinking of you and hoping you soon get some relief.

We used to keep mice. They are quite delicate creatures and if we missed more than one day cleaning out their cages, they were likely to die.

We had so many that mostly we didn't give them names, but we did name a special few.

There was Mama mouse who always had huge litters and looked after them well.
There was Dobermouse because of his black and tan coloring.
And George Burns, a tiny little gray one who was very feisty.
and YingYang who was half black and half white with a white spot on her black half and a black spot on her white half.

Then there was Vacuum, who got sucked up by accident and came out looking very dazed and dusty, but recovered quite well.

So clean out Zany's cage, give her clean food and water and make sure that her wheel doesn't squeak.

Hi guys

Well, I'm finally back home! I went into hosp with a mild dusting of snow on the ground and came home in very bright sunshine.

I am very slowly improving but I have a long way to go yet. I can get out and about in the car/wheelchair/mobility scooter but our house was NOT made for invalids and we either have to move to a bungalow or install a stairlift/ramps etc.

Many, many thanks for all your kind thoughts and wishes. They reached me (via Mick) on a day when I was particularly down after a fall during physio. Good luck to all.

Luv
Rhiannon

Has anyone heard how Rhiannon is doing these days? An old friend of hers has replied to a 2009 thread seeking Pat Willans Saunders, and as the friend is on the upper side in years, I'd hope to get word to Rhiannon.

if you wish a reading list, I can recommend, if you read fiction and if that fiction can be mystery that is more how-will-they-catch-them than who-done-it, an old Lawrence Sanders where Addisons plays a major role... it's called the third deadly sin. Thinking good thoughts of you,
