Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: Pete Jennings Date: 11 Apr 14 - 12:40 PM I've got friends on FB who have probably never heard of Mudcat - they just aren't folkies. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: GUEST,CS Date: 11 Apr 14 - 09:34 AM I like the 'ignore user' options you get on some fora. If they are tossers, you click 'ignore user' and you never see their posts again! Would save a hell of a lot of scrolling on MC. |

People who I know are so opposed to one another's politics or philosophy, etc., but all liking so many of the things I like. I see enuf likes I'll go back and see their comments. Wackily wondrrful. ♥♡♥ |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: Jack the Sailor Date: 10 Apr 14 - 10:13 PM I have a number of good friends on Facebook with whom, for one reason or another, I cannot chat with here. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 10 Apr 14 - 06:27 PM I ventured on to Facebook just out of curiosity really with the hope of perhaps finding people that I had lost touch with and happened to stumble across the 'Like' button and then to add a comment. It seemed a bit childish to me because surely the last thing you want to do is say anything negative to someone that you have not seen for a long time or to anyone for that matter. That's just me. The answer would be to ignore the things you don't like or don't agree with and only click the messages and postings that take your interest. I am a sucker for heartwarming animal stories so of course I am going to like that but couldn't help feeling that Facebook was an hour or so wasted when I could have been chatting on here. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: Jack the Sailor Date: 09 Apr 14 - 07:34 PM Giok has it right in my opinion. Folks are posting what is interesting to them. If you are curious, ask. If you want to complain do it on your own bloody page. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: GUEST,Giok Date: 09 Apr 14 - 07:08 PM You don't need to have a "Dislike" button on Facebook, when you can delete the whole post. You can chose who you want to listen to and block those you dislike. What's not to like about that? |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: gnu Date: 09 Apr 14 - 07:01 PM The 'like' is, of course, open to interpretation. Depends how YOU use it and how it is perceived. It's a good feature as long as yer not a twit about it. If ya wanna take it the wrong way, rough ass fer you. I like the feature because most people will understand that a like is meant in a good way. When in anyway otherwise, explanations most often ensue. As for "dislike" buttons... what the fuck don't you understand about explaining yourself? Ya wanna post displeasure? Explain your disdain. Give the rest of us an explanation. We can understand a like because we understand what you like... IT"S THERE ALREADY. If you don't like it... why not? Tell us. Educate us. We might even click the 'like button' on you 'dislike'. >;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: bobad Date: 09 Apr 14 - 06:49 PM To make a thumbs down on Facebook copy the small black thumbs down symbol in either of the two posts beneath "other answers (2)" on this page: https://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130605085956AAbdPGQ and paste it in your comment field on Facebook. It will make a proper thumbs down symbol when you submit your post. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: ragdall Date: 09 Apr 14 - 06:08 PM I agree with you, Jim. I've looked for that there. rags |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: Jim Dixon Date: 09 Apr 14 - 06:01 PM Facebook would be a lot more attractive to me if it had a "dislike" button as well. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: Jack the Sailor Date: 09 Apr 14 - 04:33 PM A lot of threads are 46 likes and 2 or three comments. Yeah we could used it here. Maybe even a bollocks button. Though I don't really understand the UK Mudcat propensity to be so negative, and I know that it is a minority of UK members, but some are so negative it can be tiresome. |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: Bill D Date: 09 Apr 14 - 04:16 PM I see your point, Jack, but for some it becomes just a mindless exercise to prove to 'friends' you were there. I recently saw a post about the death of a family member. There were 20-30 decent, thoughtful comments... and 3 'likes'. If I have an opinion, I will say so.. even if it's short. I have never yet clicked the 'like' button. "Diff'rn't clicks for diff'rn't schticks" or, "You say toe-may-to and I'll say toe-mah-to" ☺ |
Subject: RE: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 09 Apr 14 - 03:09 PM I've never seen Facebook. Is there also a 'Don't Like' button? Or maybe even a 'This Is Utter Bollocks' button? (Are you suggesting perhaps that Mudcat adopts them? Could be quite useful and save a lot of time.) |
Subject: BS: Hate Facebook, Like 'like' buttons From: Jack the Sailor Date: 09 Apr 14 - 11:36 AM 'Like' buttons are a way to give approval without wasting time and electrons. They are like a nod and an approving smile at a noisy party. "Yeah. I see what you did. Good job. Keep it up." all rolled up into one little "click." "Clicks" are better than "cliques." |
