Hi, UK Catters. I'm trying to find the best way to get from Stansted Airport to Ramsgate in Kent on June 24th. Bus or train?
Arriving Stansted at 8:00 a.m.
Any help appreciated.

Nice one, Guest... I've now bookmarked that site.

Yes, train. Deffo. You'll die a slow and lingering death sitting through the traffic once you hit London's orbital pull otherwise - especially at that time of day. Just getting through the Dartford tunnel can take three lifetimes. And the M25 is so heavily used that it's always needing maintenance somewhere or other, so there are often roadworks to sweeten the mix.

I think even a train may possibly take you a bit longer than two hours tho, depending on how long you have to wait for one. But on the roads... fergeddit. Have a great journey -

Rail route-planner:

You want to go via St. Pancras Station, which is the big London turning-point. Don't mix it up with Liverpool Street (where the Stansted trains also go) or you could wind up in the wilds of Essex.

Seamus, if you're carrying luggage, and maybe even a guitar, I'd be tempted to have a cup of coffee at the airport so you miss St. Pancras during the morning rush - it'll be packed.

Bonnie is mistaken, Liverpool Street is the only London terminus for Stansted trains. Do take care not to board a Liverpool train at the airport. Ramsgate is served from both St Pancras and Victoria.

If he is arriving at 8, after allowing for usual airport delays, the rush hour should be over when he gets to London.

With luggage a taxi from Liverpool Street may be more practical than following the route planners and taking the Victoria Line from Tottenham Hale.

Trains are every 15 minutes from Stansted and twice an hour from St P. Remember that a higher fare is payable to use the high speed service from S P. For standard fares you need to take the slower, half hourly, service from Victoria.

Just to add to the above (why doesn't this site prompt for a name??) There is a choice of express coaches from the airport if price is an issue but for the London to Ramsgate leg there are only six direct coaches a day.

National Express won't get you there until after lunch but on the plus side you will only have to haul your lugguage across the road from the arrivals area to the departure area at Victoria Coach Station.

Thanks Guest at 7:22 - didn't realise Liverpool Street was the only London terminus (though that was the one I used when I had to travel from Stansted, years ago).

My thanks to all! Got some choices to make, but plenty to work from here. I'll have a small wheelie suitcase and a backpack guitar.
I knew the 'Catters would come through. Thanks.
