Subject: ADD Version: Unpucker (Louvin & Carlisle) From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Jun 14 - 06:34 AM Here's my attempt at transcribing the Cousin Jody recording: UNPUCKER (Charles and Ira Louvin and Bill Carlisle) Now, I was only twenty three when I first met my love, Freckle-faced and pig-tailed, she was my turtle dove; One night upon the old settee, I popped the question low, And when we both got puckered up, she softly whispered, "NO!" CHORUS: Unpucker, mama's at the door, Unpucker, or we can't court no more; Now, you know what'd happen if she saw us puckered up like this - Unpucker, 'fore she gives that knob a twist. I borrowed papa's Model A to take her for a ride, To the drive-in movies where I thought that we could hide; I found a place to park the car, turned on the radio, And when we both got puckered up, she softly whispered, "NO!" CHORUS: Unpucker, mama's at the door, Unpucker, or we can't court no more; She's out there tryin' to help us 'cause she thinks we're out of gas; Unpucker, she's a-peekin' through the glass. One night I went to see her, it came a thunderstorm, We didn't get to pucker up 'til it was nearly morn; When to my luck the lightning struck and all the lights went out, I puckered up and I grabbed her quick and then I heard her shout: CHORUS Unpucker the lights have come back on, Unpucker, there must be something wrong; ....(don't get it), hey! that's Ma you're kissin' now! Unpucker, 'fore you make that marriage vow. transcribed from a recording by Cousin Jody, which is almost the same as the Carlisle recording. |
Subject: Lyr Req: Unpucker (Louvin & Carlisle) From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Jun 14 - 05:18 AM Can anybody post the lyrics to "Unpucker"? Apparently, it's by Charlie & Ira Louvin & Bill Carlisle. Here's the e-mail request I got for this song: am looking for the Lyrics of Unpucker. Charlie & Ira Louvin & Bill Carlisle collaborated on the song. I remember only a few things about my mother one of which was her singing the song. Part of one of the verses:
be my luck the lightning struck and all the power went out I grabbed her quick and puckered up and then I heard her shout Unpucker momma's at the door, unpucker or we can't court no more………… I would love to have the entire lyrics. If you can assist me please advise. I can verify that the song was written by Ira Louvin; Charles Louvin; Bill Carlisle. It was published in 1954, and the title is indeed "Unpucker." Click Here for a photo of the record label. It was the "B" side of a Bill Carlisle recording titled "'Tain't Nice." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5WoIiIlZpc Title: Unpucker.
