Subject: RE: Thought for the day..where is it?? From: Allan C. Date: 23 Nov 99 - 01:56 PM Sorry, NO, I suppose now that I have taken up the standard it has somehow become mine. I posted one moments ago and then discovered this thread. Actually I kinda like that one, Aine (wish I could remember how to put those accents on!). There is little more beautiful to behold than a woman who still presents herself attractively despite the years. Often it is more a thing of the mind more than of the body. (Or at least, intellectually, I would like to think that no matter what my hormones are shouting about that 23 year-old over there!) |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day..where is it?? From: Allan C. Date: 23 Nov 99 - 02:01 PM BTW, I will only be here from time to time over the next few days - until Monday morning. So if someone else would like to fill in, the job is open - at least until Peter returns, whenever that may be. |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day..where is it?? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 23 Nov 99 - 04:19 PM How about this one: If street lights have those light sensitive sensors on them, to tell them it's dark enough to turn themselves on, why don't they turn themselves off when the light goes on....? Worried me for ages that one has..... LTS |
|
Subject: RE: Thought for the day..where is it?? From: jeffp Date: 23 Nov 99 - 04:21 PM lts - generally the sensor is aimed up, while the light is aimed down. Also, i believe the sensor has a narrow field of view to prevent the possibility you mentioned. |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day..where is it?? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 23 Nov 99 - 04:41 PM Oh you are so literal!!! So why doesn't it happen with my daughter's night light where the sensor is at the bottom of the bulb......? LTS |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day..where is it?? From: Allan C. Date: 23 Nov 99 - 04:44 PM Truth is (as I know it) that those sensors are infamous for going bozo. A new nightlight should fix that particular problem. |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day..where is it?? From: Little Neophyte Date: 23 Nov 99 - 06:34 PM Hi Allan I know you have been subletting Peter T's Thought For The Day, and doing a great job of it. I was wondering? Is it okay if I do tomorrow's Thought For The Day? I had something in mine. Banjo Bonnie |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day..where is it?? From: Bill D Date: 23 Nov 99 - 07:49 PM I guess there's not exactly a RULE against anyone thinking on a given day..*big grin*...why, even I might sprinkle wisdom someday... |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day..where is it?? From: annamill Date: 23 Nov 99 - 11:35 PM Áine, There is a book called "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Heinlin (SP). In it, one of the characters (Jubal, I think) has a statue of an old woman that he loves. He discloses to Michael Valentine Smith the reason. He sees in the statue of the old woman, the beauty of the young woman she was. One of my favorites. BTW, Scary! There is a street light in my town, Sea Bright, NJ, that turns OFF whenever I walk past it. I've done this several times, and I've had friends with me who laughed at first. Then when we approched, I told them to go ahead and walk by first. The light stays on!! Then I walk by. OFF IT GOES!! EVERYTIME!! Now that's weird!! Love, annap |

Subject: RE: Thought for the day..where is it?? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 23 Nov 99 - 11:45 PM We had one of those in the street I used to live on. Bloody annoying it was too, because it was just outside the house, where it would have been useful for finding keys in the dark, but sure enough, every time I walked past it, fumbling for the right key, the damn blasted thing went off! Now I don't live there, it stays on, whenever I walk past it, and I'm sure I can hear it sniggering..... If you think that is annoying though, try living in a place that has a pedestrian crossing just outside the window. Not only do you get the jolly change of colour as the lights change, but you also get the beeping sound that accompanies the 'walk' sign.....LTS |
