So it seems quite reasonable to me that they should put up a "Remember to book in good time" ad only 3 months ahead.
If business was going well they should have the "sold out" signs up by now.

A lot of people like to spread costs by starting to buy non perishables for Christmas in small quantities through the Autumn.

The "Black Bear " in Tewkesbury has had advertising boards up for its "Christmas Party" for some weeks now .This promises,as usual,plenty of litter and vomit on the pavements outside ; how jolly !!
I wonder if they advertise Christmas early in Spain,Portugal ,Madeira,Tenerife, and Lanzarote ?? We are going to all five in a week or so, so I'll keep an eye out !!

Nor, for that matter, is this thread in any way new. Pliny the Younger was much of the same mind about Saturnalia, and Seneca describes Rome as beind prey to the same mood for most of December.
The transition of Saturnalia into Christmas passed through a period of celebrating Sol Invictus, taking the luciferian element of Saturnalia into the solstice.

Which Jesus? You historians occasionally let slip that some of the more credible feats and accomplishments of his are at the very least an amalgamation of a few freedom fighters of the time and at most an idealist construct to gather like minded opinion around at the time of the gospels. A number of people were nailed to a tree by the Romans to keep the local leaders happy, and more than one had a name that could be translated into what has evolved into Jesus.

If you must bring Jesus into a thread about Christmas...

The good thing about it is that it's displaced the even more ersatz Halloween kitsch.
I also sing in a choir, and we get started on rehearsals in September. That doesn't just happen either. But then again, I'm booking activities there in February next year.
Anyway, as the resident historian, I'd remind people that we're only just past Christmas, if by that you mean Jesus ben Joseph's real birthday, which as far as we can tell was in July of 7BCE: what we're celebrating here is Saturnalia relabelled.

Thinking on, Mrs Musket has added three Xmas 'do's to the diary and says she has paid for all the tickets. For one ball we are going to, I have had to choose my menu options.

BUT [sorry to be a party-pooper on this rather selfrighteous thread you are all enjoying so much] -- re the OP: Disneyland Paris will have to be booked for Xmas; you won't be able just to walk in, you know, at such a time. A local woman of my acquaintance finds the very idea of celebrating Halloween here in Oz as "of-FENS-ive".

Mind you, she find many things "of-FENS-ive".......I don't think she gets much joy out of life!

Himself and I were in Canada on Halloween a couple of years ago and it was great fun. It's not the same here, the sun doesn't set until later because of daylight saving and it's not cold, quite the opposite in fact. For those of you in the northern hemisphere, imagine celebrating Halloween in late spring and you will get the idea.

Christmas food has been appearing in the local supermarket for a while with its own dedicated aisle. Mince pies, yum.......

KMart has started putting up their Christmas stuff, ditto Rite Aid, it loos weird with the Halloween things. I already have my sister's Christmas present. I bought it in August without seeing a single Santa or hearing a carol.

we've had christmas stuff in the craft shops for a while, which is a good idea for those who like to make stuff, but yesterday I noticed one of our department stores has their Christmas shop open!

And naturally, the craft shops & the shops selling cheap crap from China are also full of stuff for that Good Ol' Hallmark Holiday which has been promoted very actively over recent past as part of the increasing influence of American pop-culture.

I was in The Range earlier buying autumn lawn care and barley for the pond.

I have completed my Christmas shopping. I think I started in April, looking for appropriate gifts.

Here in Calgary, Christmas events are being advertised; The International Christmas Market at Spruce Meadows for one with 270 vendors expected.
