Subject: BS: Thunderbirds !!! From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 05 Apr 15 - 08:27 PM sod all this religion, politics, folk music, personal animosity grudges and vendettas bollocks.... The CGI 'reimagining' of THUNDERBIRDS started on ITV yesterday...!!!!! I'm watching it on a 47" HD screen with headphones turned up to 80 with a bank holiday bottle of scotch right now... [half time toilet break and quick check on internet] It's like the last 50 years never happened.... [except I never drank whisky when I was 6...] ...cue bitter protracted mudcat arguments about CGI versus traditional British supermarionation, and how the music is a hyped up travesty of the original marching theme... Well it aint that bad - I'm enjoying it....😀 |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds !!! From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 05 Apr 15 - 09:04 PM Well that was the hour long pilot episode - do I leave it on series record or not...??? gotta say this is the happiest I've felt for ages... [which is a bit sad really...😕] Now to watch the 'making of' documentary... Note: Americans - dunno how well you got this show in the mid 60's, bearing in mind it was filmed in colour for your TVs, though we only got it in black and white. But to Brits of a 'certain age', Thunderbirds is etched in the core of our very being. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds !!! From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Apr 15 - 09:58 PM Gee, I didn't know of a TV series, I've always thought of the Thunderbirds as an Air Force precision flying team, or as a sometimes-cool-but-usually-not automobile. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds !!! From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker Date: 05 Apr 15 - 10:18 PM Joe - back in the early to mid 60s, what your USA Military–industrial complex and consumer vehicle technology was doing in reality, our British TV entertainment could only feebly emulate with puppets and firecrackers...😜 So, right then, one big bag of tangy cheese doritos later... The making of documentary "Reggie & Thunderbirds: No Strings Attached" clinches it - I'm recording the the entire series... .. and Reggie Yates ain't the knob we may have always thought him to be, he's actually a genuine hardcore 2nd or 3rd generation Thunderbirds fan.. This is no cheap cheeesey tea time kids show... It's big [moderately big ???] budget cinematic spectacular with no less than WETA workshop doing practical studio built sets and effects... and Lady Penelope is only Rosamund Pike !!! something special for modern kids and old blokes over 50.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds !!! From: Phil Cooper Date: 05 Apr 15 - 10:20 PM This wasn't an animated puppet thing was it? Maybe I just missed all of it, so never mind. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds !!! From: Ebbie Date: 06 Apr 15 - 12:56 AM Joe, wasn't/isn't there also a jug wine named Thunderbird? Been a L O N G time. |
Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds !!! From: GUEST,punkfolkkrocker Date: 06 Apr 15 - 01:27 AM Ebbie...- this is my thread about a specific product of British popular culture from 50 years ago... but I am also very happy to mash in your teenage memories of underage teen girl strong Liquor improprieties from the same point in time..... Todays church women in their 70s were probably very problematic sexy teens 50 years ago...😜😜😜 |

Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds !!! From: DMcG Date: 06 Apr 15 - 03:00 AM I really enjoyed the original series but somehow all the advertising of this one passed me by so the first I heard of it was when a friend posted their reaction to it on Facebook. |

Subject: RE: BS: Thunderbirds !!! From: GUEST,Blandiver (Astray) Date: 06 Apr 15 - 04:20 PM Why the CGI? After Team America you'd think they'd be happy to get back to analogue methods. Only without the close ups of the real hands. The stuff of nightmares.. I realise that Team America was now a Very Long Time ago. Fuck yeah! |
