Here's another song I'm preparing for the Rise Again Songbook. This is what I hear on the Pioneering Women of Bluegrass, by Hazel Dickens and Alice Gerrard. Any corrections?

WON'T YOU COME AND SING FOR ME?
(Hazel Dickens, 1973)

I feel the shadows now upon me
And fair angels beckon me
Before I go, dear Christian brother
Won't you come & sing for me?
(in G) D - C G / C - G D / C - G - / D - C G

CHORUS
Sing the hymns we sang together
In that plain little church with the benches all worn
How dear to my heart, how precious the moments
We stood shaking hands & singing a song

C - G - / D - C G ://

My burden's heavy, my way has grown weary
I have traveled the road that was long
And it would warm this old heart, my brother
If you come & sing one song

In my home beyond that dark river
Your dear faces no more I'll see
Until we meet where there's no more sad parting
Won't you come & sing for me?

for comparison, here are the lyrics from the Digital Tradition:

WON'T YOU COME AND SING FOR ME? (from Digital Tradition)

I feel the shadows now upon me,
And fair angels beckon me,
Before I go, dear Christian brothers,
Won't you come and sing for me?

Sing the hymns that we sang together,
In that plain little church with the benches all worn.
How dear to my heart, how precious the moment
We stood shaking hands and singing those songs.

My burden is heavy, my heart has grown weary.
I have traveled the way that was lost.
And it would warm this old heart dear brothers,
If you'd come and sing one song.

Sing the hymns that we sang together,
In that plain little church with the benches all worn.
How dear to my heart, how precious the moment
We stood shaking hands and singing those songs.

In my home beyond that dark river,
Your dear faces no longer I'll see,
Until we meet where there's no more sad partings,
Won't you come and sing for me?

Sing the hymns that we sang together,
In that plain little church with the benches all worn.
How dear yo my heart, how precious the moment
We stood shaking hands and singing those songs.

Sing the hymns that we sang together,
In that plain little church with the benches all worn.
How dear to my heart, how precious the moment
We stood shaking hands and singing those songs.

Check out page 11 after a Google of

The voice of the mountains - Google Books

Hazel Dickens version there with notation and lyrics.

Hmm.. having spent a while on Google, with the usual hassle throwing up loads of completely irrelevant links, it turns out the actual title of the book is Voices from the Mountains! but all the links point to sales outlets and not to locating any text extracts, let alone scrolling to any page 11.... Typical - and frustrating.

However, it's worth mentioning the most recent recording of the song, by Anna & Elizabeth, on their album on Free Dirt Records. It's magic... there's a few minor differences to the lyric, or at least the one printed in the DT that Joe references in above post.
