Subject: RE: Obit: Christopher Lee From: MGM·Lion Date: 11 Jun 15 - 09:34 AM Alas! I knew him right at outset of his career, as he was regular customer in my mother's restaurant near Gloucester Road Station in early 1950s. I remember him once telling me I should learn to love Wagner; but I never have. He was, tho, a most charming man. Why, he never showed a fang or bit a single waitress! Didn't do badly age-wise tho; 10 years older than me. RIP indeed. And adieu, Christopher. ≈Michael≈ |

Subject: RE: Obit: Christopher Lee From: GUEST,just a-passin' through Date: 11 Jun 15 - 11:26 AM I can see Count Dooku now, saying to the archangels, "Your swords, please; we wouldn't want to make a mess of things." RIP. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Christopher Lee From: GUEST,Joseph Scott Date: 11 Jun 15 - 11:43 AM I was really impressed with Lee's acting in The Two Faces Of Dr. Jekyll, an underrated movie that in its amoral tone was ahead of its time. Michael, it's never too late to listen to this again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=891JUSQplzU |
Subject: RE: Obit: Christopher Lee From: MGM·Lion Date: 11 Jun 15 - 12:23 PM Sorry, Joseph; but you are no more successful in converting me than was the late Sir Christopher. I have tried for the last 70+ years to come to terms with the works of Dick Carter -- my late first wife even persuaded me we should go & see the ENO's production of The Flying Dutchman, "just to see". I don't dislike the operas, exactly; but their resolute grandiloquence just leaves me cold. Sorry again. But I shall just have to go to my grave without finding Siegfried all that Idyllic, & without having been Tannhäused or wed to The Ring! ≈M≈ |

Subject: RE: Obit: Actor Christopher Lee (1922-2015) From: GUEST,Eddie1 (Cookie lost forever) Date: 13 Jun 15 - 04:14 AM A much less-known episode in his career was his role as the King in the musical adaptation of Lord Dunsany's "King of Elfland's Daughter"! It never appeared on stage, only as a concept album by former Steeleye Span members Bob Johnson and Peter Knight. Listen if you get the chance. A wonderful singing voice! RIP. Eddie |
