Subject: Tune to go with Mauri's Wedding medley? From: Nancy Date: 30 Nov 99 - 09:58 PM Mauri's Wedding is a great tune but I'd like to do a medley. Any suggestions for a tune to go with it? Thanks! Nancy |
Subject: RE: Tune to go with Mauri's Wedding medley? From: sophocleese Date: 30 Nov 99 - 10:28 PM You should check out the thread called "You've probably not missed me...but". There's a link there to another site that has Mauri's Wedding mixed with two other tunes. If you can name the tunes you get THE RECOGNITION YOU DESERVE!!!! And general obeisance from several others. |
Subject: RE: Tune to go with Mauri's Wedding medley? From: DonMeixner Date: 30 Nov 99 - 11:27 PM Nancy, I do "Mairi's Wedding" with "Scotland the Brave" on the hammered dulcimer for people who dance Gay Gordon's. Its a very nice mix. I also play "Danny Boy" as a front piece to "Scotland The Brave" sounds odd in print but its a nice mix on the Hammered Dulcimer. I see no reason why you couldn't go from "Danny Boy" to "SCotland The Btave" and finish off with "Mairi's Wedding" if you aren't setting up for a dance. Don. |

Subject: RE: Tune to go with Mauri's Wedding medley? From: Janet Date: 01 Dec 99 - 12:38 AM Pipers would often play Mauri's Wedding, The Brown Haired Maiden (Sometimes referred to the The Nut Brown Maiden) and The Barren Rocks of Aiden together. |
Subject: RE: Tune to go with Mauri's Wedding medley? From: Reiver 2 Date: 01 Dec 99 - 12:48 AM I'm not a musician -- just love to listen to and sing the songs -- so I may be way off base here, but I've often thought of Mairi's Wedding along with "My Love She's But A Lassie, O" and perhaps, also, "The Hills of Connemara." |
Subject: RE: Tune to go with Mauri's Wedding medley? From: Liz Lewis Date: 01 Dec 99 - 10:04 PM I have an old recording (Scottish sing-along) with the Uist Tramping Song, followed immediately by Mairi's Wedding. It really is a great song to sing while walking, hiking, etc. (good breath control practice!) but not very well-known. It is in John Loesberg's Traditional Folksongs and Ballads of Scotland, Vol. Two (paperback, Ossian Publications). Enjoy - Liz |
Subject: RE: Tune to go with Mauri's Wedding medley? From: roopoo Date: 02 Dec 99 - 05:59 PM When we have played it in our NW Morris side, we have used "The 42nd" with it. What my dad used to call "Wha saw the tattie-hauchers". I think it may be the march of the Black Watch. mouldy |

From: MichaelM Date: 02 Dec 99 - 06:16 PM At the risk of being hissed out of the spotlight and to throw something wildly from deep left field (a position I have been destined to play from childhood) I played with a trio in which we went from "Mauri's Wedding" straight into "If I Only Had A Brain". Subject: RE: Tune to go with Mauri's Wedding medley? From: Marki Date: 02 Dec 99 - 06:16 PM I've done this at a wedding.... not exactly a medly, but I first did the song "Tell My Ma" and then went into "Mairi's Wedding". It worked GREAT together (and sounded really good too, but we did do both songs quite fast). I don't know what other one's you could throw in there tho' |

Subject: RE: Tune to go with Mauri's Wedding medley? From: Bobby brogerso@island.net Date: 03 Dec 99 - 04:55 AM Just saw your posting; coincidence---I was playing a wee medley tonight at Baun practice---try "Spanish Lady". A perfect match!!! Bobby "As I walked down thro' Dublin city At the hour of twelve at night Who should I spy but the Spanish Lady Washin' her hair by candle light-----" Maybe not "lyric-perfect"---but enough to jog the memory?
