I'm not ignoring you Seed...but you need to "cut" the pie analogy as I'm hungier than hell for a big slab of Pecan, but I haven't done enough today to feel worthy. Hmmmmm...I've done enough to make a Buttermilk pie and eat a big slice.......Cheaper and better.......Highly recommended by the American Dental Assoociation as a business builder. Oh well......

Seed,there is a reverse side to the coin of Ethical and Moral nobility in the face of the void- it is simple mechanical materialism, the tendency to see everything (people, resources,yourself) in terms of objects. These objects may be valuable or valueless as perceived by the beholder. Personal worth and accomplishment is determined (by those who suffer from this disease) through the accumulation of those objects perceived as valuable, much as a prehistoric hunter might gain power from trophies of his kills, but with a difference- this modern hunter attributes no magic to his trophies beyond their barterable exchange rate in other objects. The true Existential always judges personal worth and accomplishment on Right Action and the propogation of Truth and Beauty. We can aspire to worse.

seed - i agree -- and add that the 5% actively promotes a divide and distract mentality in the other 95% and pretty much suceeds--by the way my favorite Marx is Harpo -- but yours is OK too

The Tao of Pooh was written by Benjamin Hoff who was training to be a buddist monk and during his studies, kept seeing a parallel between how the monks were being trained and the way Winnie the Pooh conducted his life. He eventually wrote a book called Tao of Pooh which became a best seller; Te of Piglet followed.

Leej, exactly what I was saying, only in a different vocabulary.

About 30 years ago I wrote the following lyrics (I use "My Darling Nellie Gray" for the melody)--this was during "La Huelga" when the striking farmworkers were getting very limited support from organized labor which seemed to me at the time more concerned with protecting featherbedding and seniority than working to improve the lives of those outside their membership, when union leadership was supporting the US Vietnam policy, etc.

Once the workers sang about a commonwealth of toil*, But brotherhood has flittered out the door: The AFL is sassy and the CIO is fat, And solidarity ain't solid, any more...it's

(chorus) "Oh, I've got mine, buddy, yes I've made my little pile, I had to fight like hell to get it, too; You know I feel for you, buddy, and I wish you lots of luck, But I ain't riskin' what I've got for you."

(alternative first verse) Hey, that fat upon your belly is a baby born dead, Or a young girl's teeth falling out of her head While her bones grow brittle and shatter at a touch, And it's all because you eat too much.
