Subject: BS: Winter Storm Mars, 2016 From: keberoxu Date: 07 Feb 16 - 04:30 PM That's the name of the next named storm system. Sound ominous enough? |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Storm Mars From: Steve Shaw Date: 07 Feb 16 - 05:24 PM We're dealing with Imogen at the moment. Sounds like the roof might be off by morning! Scary winds in Cornwall right now and the worst is yet to come. |

Subject: RE: BS: Winter Storm Mars From: GUEST,Shimrod Date: 08 Feb 16 - 04:46 AM I would imagine that they'll run out of names soon and have to start repeating themselves. 'Imogen 2, 3, 4 etc.' perhaps? |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Storm Mars From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 08 Feb 16 - 05:33 AM Well we have about the same amount of water flowing down the hill across the top of the fields towards the Irwell as there was when we had the last lot of floods so be prepared down there! |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Storm Mars From: Steve Shaw Date: 08 Feb 16 - 06:38 AM What a wild night thanks to Imogen. I think Cornwall might be somewhere in Germany today. The tide's coming in this afternoon so I'll be off to see some big waves at Widemouth. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Storm Mars From: Steve Shaw Date: 08 Feb 16 - 08:36 PM The waves were huge and scary, though they were blown out somewhat as they came up the beach due to the strength of the wind. We waited until later to go to have a look when the tide was right up and the sand wasn't blowing so much. The beach car park was six inches deep in foam that looked just like snow. The bank between Widemouth beach and the coast road is breached at one point and sand had drifted to about two feet deep on most of the road. Several people tried to drive uphill through it and got stuck. Getting out of the car was an option only if you didn't mind having your skin stripped off by the blowing sand. The main blow lasted for about fifteen hours. I'm guessing it was around force ten for much of that time. Not very ladylike, Imogen. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Storm Mars From: Rapparee Date: 08 Feb 16 - 08:52 PM If the waves are so big, you did take your board down and do some serious surfin', right? |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Storm Mars From: Steve Shaw Date: 08 Feb 16 - 09:06 PM As I'm not dead, it's clear that I didn't. |
Subject: RE: BS: Winter Storm Mars From: GUEST,Guest from Sanity Date: 09 Feb 16 - 01:23 PM Hmm....well it looks like a great day to go to Venus, perhaps I only need to take a sweater. GfS |
Subject: BS: Winter Storm Mars From: keberoxu Date: 09 Feb 16 - 01:30 PM Catching our collective breath today. At least the snow was a light powder, and not the heavy wet heart-attack snow from a week ago. |
