Guest Susan Faulkner-Wiley has reported in another thread that Major Wiley has died. Her message reads:

March 25th 2016. Major has been very sick and passed away today! Feeling sad! Xxx

Me too. May he rest in eternal peace. (Well, peace with a bit of music thrown in.)

If you find an obit please post a link, or if you think it isn't durable, post the text here. I saw her post and went looking for information - no news confirming his death, but some remarkable discussions about his life.

I have had over the past week and more occasions to express my deep sadness at Major's death, firstly on the other Mudcat thread where various folks have asked what had become of Major since his Greenwich Village basket house days. Much information and appreciation is to be found there. I have also indicated that those who would be interested in some personal recollections of my old friend might look at the website www.patrickcarroll.co.uk where, in the memoir category, especially in chapters 9 & 10, there are some accounts of the man, and in the more recent post, Dublin 50 Years On, which also features some episodes of Major's initial visit to Ireland in 1971.
Definitely not forgotten.

Thank you so much for your wonderful input, Patrick. Major is definitely not forgotten. What a stunning talent. What a lovely man. R.I.P.
