Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: Donuel Date: 19 May 16 - 08:34 PM Have you ever seen the salmon of NYS? I can't imagine they migrate through the St Lawrence to the Atlantic |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: Joe Offer Date: 19 May 16 - 08:57 PM Where are you going to be in Alaska, Dan? I had to work there for three weeks in December, 1994. I swear December is the best time to visit Alaska, but I've also had fun in May and August. Have a good time. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: Ebbie Date: 19 May 16 - 09:57 PM Our driest, brightest weather in southeast Alaska, Joe O, is typically from mid-April to the end of June- that is where we are now and we've had marvelous weather. Dan,Olddude,we're 600 miles from Anchorage by air- two days by car, so unless you come to Juneau we probably won't get to meet you. Do say you'll come here! In any case, have a wonderful time. |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: olddude Date: 19 May 16 - 10:25 PM Don, kings in nys are stocked in the great Lakes from fingerings from the state of Washington. They don't care if it is not the ocean. They act the same way and head to creeks to spawn |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: Donuel Date: 19 May 16 - 11:03 PM Fairbanks average temperature this month is 72. DC was 67. |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: Rapparee Date: 19 May 16 - 11:52 PM In Anchorage you can fish Shi* Creek! It flows right through downtown. |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: Joe Offer Date: 20 May 16 - 12:27 AM ...and what do those salmon feed on, Rap? |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: gnu Date: 20 May 16 - 06:29 AM Have fun, Dan. |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: Rapparee Date: 20 May 16 - 09:21 AM They feed on nothing much -- they're going upstream to spawn. Not even food gets in the way of spawning (ask any teenage boy!), and then they die. |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: mg Date: 20 May 16 - 04:16 PM remember we have salmon cds for sale..$10 each with cover, $5 each without plus shipping...just pm me. they have around 18-20 songs each. all about salmon..fishing, ecology etc. |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: Greg F. Date: 21 May 16 - 10:43 AM What kind of tackle are you using on these guys, Dan? MANY Years ago I caught a few on a 6 wt fly rod- what a kick!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: gnu Date: 21 May 16 - 03:02 PM A 6 wt? Wow! Kick indeed! Fly, baby, fly! Never fish bait or lure again for fresh water fish (and some salt water fish), me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: olddude Date: 22 May 16 - 01:51 PM 40 lbs test, they are just coming in and will feed on salmon eggs. The current is strong and you need four ounce lead. Big hooks and very strong gear. I got a hold of one over fifty pounds and shook the hook. Maybe today I will nail one. Later runs they don't feed. |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: olddude Date: 22 May 16 - 01:57 PM Ship's Creek just downtown anchorage, you are allowed only one king per day and you need a king tag. The early run has the biggest ones. Egg roe, herring combo for bait. Big tough gear. |
Subject: RE: BS: Anchorage, king salmon From: Rapparee Date: 22 May 16 - 03:30 PM See? You're up Ship Creek without a paddle. |
