Subject: RE: 2016 Obit: Anne Darby (Wiseman) RIP From: GUEST Date: 14 Nov 16 - 03:03 PM It's distressing to search the web for news of old friends and to stumble on news of this kind. I knew Anne in the late 1970s and we were close for about a year. Moved abroad and lost touch with her a couple of years after that. Remembering some lovely times with the cheerful, sensitive, life-loving young woman that she was. God bless you Anne. My sympathies to her family and close friends. Steve J |

Subject: RE: 2016 Obit: Anne Darby (Wiseman) RIP From: GUEST,Paul Hunter Date: 27 Oct 16 - 03:57 PM Ann came and played at The Whipton Music Club a couple of times and she was just brilliant. We only found out recently that Ann had passed away. Wonderful musician, wonderful person. God bless you Anne. |
Subject: RE: 2016 Obit: Anne Darby (Wiseman) RIP From: GUEST,Morris-ey Date: 22 Jun 16 - 12:48 PM I posted this, or something similar, in the other thread. I knew Anne for only 7 or 8 months in 1979(I think) at Dingles and the Freemasons Arms in Covent Garden. A truly lovely person. |
Subject: RE: 2016 Obit: Anne Darby (Wiseman) RIP From: GUEST,Dave Mitchell Date: 22 Jun 16 - 08:12 AM This is one of those instances for which you could say "life sucks". Anne's sudden death has been a great shock. We had recently been talking about getting together and possibly performing again. She was, as usual, being very modest about what her contribution would be; I was in no doubt. A voice and talent like that were gifts that needed to be shared. Anybody that heard her sing would know exactly what I mean. My thoughts and best wishes go to her family. I have lost a great friend. |
Subject: RE: 2016 Obit: Anne Darby (Wiseman) RIP From: GUEST,Nick and Mally Dow Date: 13 Jun 16 - 02:55 PM We re-met Anne in Teignmouth last year. She was at the festival, and came to my gig and Mally's workshop on Romany Life. I have many good memories of her at Dingles folk club, and I was at that weekend in Cornwall, when we stayed with Mervyn Vincent. Sad news indeed, and very unexpected. God rest her. Nick and Mally |

Subject: RE: 2016 Obit: Anne Darby (Wiseman) RIP From: GUEST,John James Date: 12 Jun 16 - 06:20 AM In these days of hysteria that grips the masses through TV, Press etc about celebrities, royal family etc. Anne's contribution to the world of music will, no doubt, get overlooked. Not that she was involved in music for the "award", though a round of applause, encore at the end of the night and a return booking was usually ample reward. When my daughter who lives in Teignmouth,Devon and is a local school teacher, specialising in music, told me Mrs Folk had died. I thought what a great accolade.'Mrs Folk'. But so many areas of Britain have their Mrs (& Mr) Folk. From when I started travelling around the folk clubs in 1968 , I have met and been regally accommodated by hundreds of them. As have most other travelling folkies. I was thinking about this not so long ago when Pam Colls of Dartford FC died. The pro folk singer who gets picked up at the station, fed and bedded, money stuffed in his pocket and taxied away again. Then collects an award for having an award from they who collected the award last time to whom they will present it to next year...ad naus..zzzzzz. Where is the provider ? The organiser. When is their award show. Where is their honours list ? Without these stalwarts there would be no folk club. That's why the folk clubs have gone...the organisers have gone. These champions of the music cannot champion indefinitely. These folks, champions, put their hand in their pocket to keep their club going, I have seen it time & time again. Anne will be remembered for the unbridled musical joy of Dead Sea Surfers, Spring Chicks etc. but also for keeping the music alive in South Devon, though I remember her more in London days. So when some dingbat comes on the telly.." Rod's got a knighthood...the passing of such musical geniuses on the planet blah blah the music of Prince and David Bowie touched us all " Hoi ! mate. sorry but it didn't. But Anne Darby-Wiseman DID ! |
Subject: RE: 2016 Obit: Anne Darby (Wiseman) RIP From: GUEST,Fyldeplayer Date: 12 Jun 16 - 04:52 AM I met Anne a lifetime ago when I stood in as guitarist for a Dingles arranged weekend in Cornwall - the effect was immediate and long lasting. What songs, such a voice and very funny. Simon Deigan, my wife Alison and myself will feel a lose next time we perform Lisbon and Lazarus. My saddest condolences. |

Subject: RE: 2016 Obit: Anne Darby (Wiseman) RIP From: Gozz Date: 08 Jun 16 - 01:58 PM We heard about Anne's passing at the Union Inn Folk Session in Denbury last Thursday evening. It was a shock to all who attended that night. Even though Anne did not attend this session we all knew her and respected her, as would all those in South Devon who have met her. She will be missed by many. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Anne Darby (Wiseman) RIP From: Anne Lister Date: 07 Jun 16 - 04:07 PM So sorry to hear of Anne's passing. I didn't know her very well, but she and the other Surfers were extraordinarily kind to me at a time when I needed friends to get me out of my flat and in front of an audience. I've never forgotten it. |
Subject: Obit: Anne Darby (Wiseman) RIP From: Herga Kitty Date: 07 Jun 16 - 06:25 AM I posted the sad news of Anne's demise on the "What happened to the Dead Sea Surfers?" thread last week, but it's been suggested that this deserves its own thread. I received the following message from Hugh Diamond on 2nd June: There are times when reality shifts and I was struck by utter disbelief when I heard today that Anne Darby(Wiseman) had died. I knew Anne since the late 70s, from Dingles Folk Club and other London Folk Venues, indeed we were both residents at Capital Folk Club in the Freemasons Arms. Many of you will remember her from clubs and festivals and as a member of "The Dead Sea Surfers". She was still actively involved in music and I had her booked to do a concert for me this coming July. Anne ran an Acoustic Folk and Blues evening locally and she was there in good form only last Friday. As well as a great song writer, musician, friend she was also a person of sterling character and values who enriched the lives of all who knew her. Her family wish to keep the funeral arrangements private, however I have no doubt that there will be some event to commemorate and celebrate her life (and I'll be there!) |
