Anyone know the rest of the song which has this / or a similar line:

'...at one time a whole bloody fleet could get laid'

possibly the fourth line of a verse?

Sounds like it might be a wartime / services song -- if so there might be many variations.
I guess it could also refer to a fishing fleet- - the person who asked comes from a fishing port

I'll pass on all suggestions - thanks!

no old sailors - or trawlermen perhaps - that can bring the rest of this song to mind?

I can't claim to be a sailor or trawlerman, though I'm pretty handy with a canoe paddle - and a search engine. I tried my usual search tricks and couldn't find this one.
I have lots of military songbooks, but didn't have any luck finding this song.

Thanks Joe - - me neither!
My pal Nancy has had an earworm of just this line - which may or may not be accurate!
haven't heard if she remembers the tune and alas she does have memory problems these days (don't we all?)
If I ever do find out more- - or she remembers it - I shall be sure to let you know!
A
