From: Steve Shaw Date: 04 Aug 16 - 03:46 PM I know it's not the answer to the question, but the song was performed beautifully on what is probably an impossible album to find these days called Dancin' To The Ceili Band, recorded by The Bucks in 1994. The main players on the album were Ron Kavana, Terry Woods and Paddy Keenan. There was some gorgeous concertina playing by (I suspect) Terry Woods. He and Ron Kavana do the singing. The title used was Hurray Me Boys Hurray, but it is the song described above. It's credited to Ron and Terry, but that's Ron for you! 😉 |

Harry Fox also lists a song titled "Welcome Paddy Home," HFA #W61036, by John Murphy, published by Tunecore Digital Music. It was recorded by the Tin Sandwich Band on an album titled By Hook or by Crook. |

I'm guessing it was American-Irish, early 20th century. The lyrics I've found are amazingly similar - all seem to be almost exactly the same as the lyrics in the Digital Tradition. One would think we could find this in a songbook somewhere, but no cigar. This page (click) says that the song was written by Charles J. Kickham, who also wrote "Slievenamon." -Joe- |

Kickham did spend time in New York and Chicago. However, unless someone can locate the original first stanza, then we may never know. Kickham was born in Mullinahone, County Tipperary. Locate a stanza that reads "a Tipperary town" and then that may be a place from which to start. (Note to self.) |
