Subject: Current Acapella Folk Groups (UK) From: GUEST,Mogga Date: 12 Aug 16 - 05:35 AM Hi All So - who are good acapella groups at the moment who gig around the UK? The Young Uns, Lady Maisery, The Teacups and Fishermans Friends are all on the list. Anyone else? Suggestions appreciated. Thanks M |

Subject: RE: Good Current Acapella Groups (UK) From: Mysha Date: 12 Aug 16 - 07:59 AM Hi, If you're quick, you might be able to catch Sound Tradition at White Horse today. (And there's another chance on Sunday.) Is there a minimum number of members to qualify as a group? Bye, Mysha |
Subject: RE: Good Current Acapella Groups (UK) From: severed-head Date: 12 Aug 16 - 08:36 AM As soon as I read the title of this thread, Sound Tradition came into my head. And although Mysha has beaten me to it, I heartily support their nomination. I suppose if Fisherman's Friends are included, that opens the door to all shanty crews. Three Sheets to the Wind and The Longest Johns are two of my favourites. If a duo qualifies, then Lynne Heraud and Pat Turner are also wonderful. Garry |

Subject: RE: Good Current Acapella Groups (UK) From: GUEST,gecko Date: 13 Aug 16 - 12:20 AM 'Coope, Boyes and Simpson' are the ultimate UK A'capella singers in my book. Ever since we saw them doing a sound check with 'Rufford Park Poachers' at The Albert Hole, Bristol in 2002, or thereabouts, I've been a convert! YIU gecko |
Subject: RE: Good Current Acapella Groups (UK) From: GUEST,Erich Date: 13 Aug 16 - 02:52 AM I would recommend "Hex", "She Shanties", Ruth & Sadie Price. Lady Maisery are great, but not really an a-capella group (they play a bunch of instruments:harp, accordion, fiddle, bansitar). The same for the Young'uns. If you mean groups with fine harmony singing, there are many more.... |

Subject: RE: Good Current Acapella Groups (UK) From: FreddyHeadey Date: 14 Aug 16 - 06:27 PM Yes to all above I think. Thanks for Muldoon's Picnic, I'd not heard of them. btw Other spelling variants: http://www.singers.com/a-cappella.html I prefer a cappella If you use Spotify I've been adding tracks to a playlist, these include solo folk, unaccompanied |
