Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: GUEST,Sam Date: 11 Sep 16 - 05:15 AM Thanks for the link to Nick Hart's music. I've not come across him before, there's a lot to like there. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Big Al Whittle Date: 10 Sep 16 - 12:13 PM yes but who else remembers the rolf harris show these days....? |

Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Acorn4 Date: 10 Sep 16 - 09:39 AM "Two's Company" are a duo from Sheffield who won the open mike at Shrewsbury last year. Just about to launch a Cd and we've booked them for our club at Seagrave, Leics on 23rd Sept. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Backwoodsman Date: 09 Sep 16 - 11:37 AM Another shout for Katriona Gilmore & Jamie Roberts.i did the support spot for them at Faldingworth Live last year, they were excellent. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 09 Sep 16 - 11:06 AM Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne is such a mouthful that he opted for his first name only. It's not about putting on airs and graces or thinking he's already 'famous' what ever that means. He has everything going for him, and I will be there at the Grove in Leeds in November. Can't wait. I did my first folk club gig in 1974 when I was about his age. It takes a lot to get me excited about a performer now days, but Cohen is the man for me. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Reinhard Date: 09 Sep 16 - 10:26 AM Dave, two posters referred to Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne by his first name, but I don't know if the artist in question promotes himself which just his first name. His website uses his full name in all titles and banners. And by the way, when I first read the thread title "The Younger Generation", I thought it was about a successor for "The Young Generation"... |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Dave Hanson Date: 09 Sep 16 - 09:45 AM Cohen ? I'm automatically suspicious of people who think they are so famous they only need one name. He may well be very good but I've never heard of him. Dave H |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Rob Naylor Date: 09 Sep 16 - 08:36 AM Not really new performers, as they've been around for a fair while, but: The Carrivick Sisters Gilmore and Roberts Cardboard Fox (which is the Carrivick sisters plus 2, essentially): Cardboard Fox At The Bell ....noisy audience but gives you a flavour. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Mo the caller Date: 09 Sep 16 - 08:26 AM Chester Festival have an event for young musicians. Trouble is I would need a mask to get in (though my granddaughter promised me 'smooth skin' so that I could be 'young again'). I expect they all know each other, well kept secret. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: GUEST Date: 09 Sep 16 - 07:16 AM Are they mature, are they? God I am old! Still great though. Yes, Granny's Attic are excellent. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: GUEST Date: 09 Sep 16 - 07:13 AM Both Blackbeards Tea Party and Said the Maiden have been around for a while now and are definitely on the mature side compared, say, with this year's Newcastle graduates. It all depends on your definition of "younger". Under 25? Under 30? Under 35? Granny's Attic was my first thought as well. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: matt milton Date: 09 Sep 16 - 06:06 AM I am enjoying the preview clips of Nick Hart's upcoming mini-album, 'Nick Hart Sings Eight English Folk Songs'. There's a lot of Jasper Smith in his singing in my opinion - not every day I get to say that! https://soundcloud.com/nickhartmusic |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: GUEST Date: 09 Sep 16 - 06:06 AM I like Blackbeard's Tea Party based in York. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Mo the caller Date: 09 Sep 16 - 06:02 AM Ben Robertson. Another excellent Cheshire fiddler. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=842364145842451&set=ecnf.100002066197127&type=3&theater Played at Chester festival this year |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Uncle Tone Date: 09 Sep 16 - 05:37 AM Another one. Close harmony trio 'Said the Maiden' from St Albans. Recorded them at The Festival on the Moor last year. Brilliant! Said the Maiden |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Mo the caller Date: 09 Sep 16 - 05:04 AM Eddie https://www.facebook.com/eddie.ogle.5 I first knew him a superb fiddler at a local session, but he plays other instruments and was at Chester festival sessions with another young fiddler. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 09 Sep 16 - 02:29 AM Cohen is the future for me! He gets better every time I hear him. He has a bright future solo or with Granny's attic. |
Subject: RE: The Younger Generation From: Steve Gardham Date: 08 Sep 16 - 04:29 PM I read your first line, UT, and immediately thought of Granny's Attic and lo and behold there they were in the second line. |
Subject: The Younger Generation From: Uncle Tone Date: 08 Sep 16 - 02:13 PM I'm always looking for young acts to feature on air in North Yorkshire. They don't have to come from God's own county. If they are looking after our tradition in The States or UK and are performing it well, then I am interested, whether they are already well known or not. Granny's Attic immediately comes to mind, but there are others. Cohen is on the show in November I think. At the other prog folk rock end of the spectrum there is Stark from Brighton. I am open to suggestions and I do listen to promos. For a promo address, email: fab@vale-radio.com |
