Its more important than other new years in that all new laws take effect and property taxes are reset along with budgets and some salaries. Government geeks will probably party hardy tonight by playing trivia and drinking punch. |

Laws take effect as and when that is decided for particular cases. Tax changes normally happen on April Ist, unless it's decided to change them at some other time in particular cases. |
