Hi everyone, I have returned from The Royal London Hospital to rejoin you all again at our happy little watering hole and BS-erie. The bad news (if you haven't got it elsewhere) is I lose my Gall Bladder in January by keyhole surgery, The good news is They have placed no eating or drinking restrictions on me over the Festive season!!!!! So as soon as the present course of antibiotics ends plus twelve hours I can drink again (about 6pm Tuesday, but who is counting).
One cheery bit of the experience for the prurient minded (Aine you can come out now) Aud, my SO, (bless her little cotton socks) brought me in a Walkman with built in FM radio and headphones, so I could listen to Classic FM when I couldn't sleep. She also brought in small selection of tapes for when the radio was playing something I don't like. I couldn't move more than 5 feet from my bed as I was attached to an intravenous Insulin pump, therefore all sanitary arrangements come to you especially significant is the urine bottle, I cannot use these lying down but have to sit on the side of the bed (all will be revealed in a moment). When they did my Ultrasound scan the tore an intercostal muscle (that's one of the ones between the ribs) very painful to move or cough and most significantly to laugh.
So here is the scenario. Affected by all the above I am lying in my bed listening to the radio and thinking idly that I had better call the nurse for a urine bottle. They start playing Bach on the radio (whom I do not care for all that much) so I absentmindedly switch the tape to Play. The tape starts running and it's a BBC radio comedy called "I'm sorry I haven't a clue" with the late, great Willie Rushton doing the Limerick improvisation game, in which he is given the first line of a Limerick and has to improvise the rest there and then, off the cuff, with the team each doing one line.
The first line he was given was
If your studying Natural Science
They then added in rapid succession
I suggest that you wear this appliance
You strap it on thus
And just hop on a bus
And you find you get masses of clients
Well I started to laugh a lot, (anyone in the UK who knows the programme will know why) and the muscles in my side went into spasm. So I am lying rigid on my bed laughing until the tears came and in agony bursting for a pee and incapable of summoning help and unable to reach the tape button to shut it off.
Luckily one of the nurses came to take a blood sample and in typical British understatement says "Are you all right" I just got to the bottle without a childish accident.

A great big thank you for your support and assistance especially the Mudcat Healing Circle, I knew about the power of remote healing already , but if I didn't before I would be a convinced supporter now, even the Nurses noticed and remarked on the improvement. So many thanks again.

But the worst about all of it is
The pressure of having to whiz
You lean on the ringer
And bang on the pinger
Then they come and you've done all your biz

Luv ya Micca, me boy, Áine

Oh dear -- Somebody stop me ---

I say, National Health is a must
When you have a gallbladder that's bust
They plug in the ring
Coo, what they do with that thing!
Then they leave it inside you to rust.

When the doctor became all a-flutter
The nurses they started to stutter
B-but sir, they decried
When his bum we espied
We just naturally went for the butter!

'There you go,' said Old Dr. Thorne
'You're as good as the day you were born.
But because of your lube
Don't go home by the tube
You know what heat does to popcorn!'

It's so good to hear that you're home
And I hope that you never will roam
But, if you're ever lost
Need a phone and its cost
Use your navel, it's now made out of chrome.

One day as I walked on the strand
I heard a strange sort of band
A shirt on the fella
Said 'Micca' in yella
And he was shaking his nuts in can.

'What's all this?,' I asked with a grin
As he laid down his dented old tin
'I've just been up to the docs,
They replaced 'em with rocks
But they still make a nice little din!'

Dear Micca,

I hope that your recovery is still going well. I just wanted to give you one more little taste of my poetry; but, as a special Christmas present just for YOU, I promise not to compose any more limericks about your gallbladder operation!

With every good prayer, Áine

Soon, I heard, you can raise your first glass
I wonder, will it be Guinness or Bass?
Here's a toast to your tum
Glad it wasn't your bum
And here's hoping I wasn't too crass!

I thank you with all of my heart
but my first taste of the brewers art
must be the Marston's bitter
it sure is a hitter
and my last comment will be a F***

We're glad Micca's back on his feet
And not lying under a sheet
If he was right here
I'd buy him a beer
For myself, I'll have Scot's whisky, neat!

Welcome back!

Micca, glad to see you are back. Are you well enough to go over to the Thought For The Day Dec 12th?.
I have a question for you over on that thread. Now if it is too much effort, I could always carry you over there on my back.
Who needs a gall bladder anyway. Just wasted space. Your liver can do the bile job. This will make your liver feel important.

Micca, I am of course glad that things are progressing and I am sorry that Cletus is off and about or I'd show him that picture with Squeaks. Only problem is that she has on a high cut blouse and isn't facing the camera. Cletus will be VERY upset as he is really quite taken with her copious chest hair. Oh well.......At least he ain't hangin' out here and driving me nuts!

Dear Micca, I have a friend that had his gall bladder removed by keyhole surgery a couple of years ago. He was only in the hospital for a day and a night and got better very quickly. He is fine now, just takes lecithin from time to time which is this thing (mineral?) that helps the body to process fats. That's great that you have no diet restrictions because I imagine that would be a real pain!!

Micca, best of luck on your upcoming invasion. As a pediatrician I don't see many patients with gallbladder problems, but the surgeon who practices in my building recently showed me a picture he took during surgery of somebody who had two gallbladders. I will leave comments about that phenomenon in the capable hands of the other 'Catters, but you might ask your surgeon if you get some kind of prize if he finds that in you. (If you're interested I think I can find a way of sending you the picture, since it was taken with a digital camera.) And Bonnie is right, you don't really need your gallbladder, it's just put in there to give a dash of color to the liver, an organ which is physiologically marvelous but visually quite dull.

Aloha,
Mark

'Physiologically marvelous but visually quite dull'??? Micca, me man, I'd make SURE the good Doctor is talking about your gallbladder and not your . . . OH NO -- I KNOW I PROMISED, BUT HERE COMES ANOTHER ONE . . . . .

'Physiologically marvelous, but dull,'
Said Dr. Thorne when he opened your hull
'There's a hole in his ear,
Let's pop it in here,
And fill up all that space in his skull!'

I do humbly apologise, Micca, but, after four children, these things just tend to *pop out* when I least expect it!

Humbly beseeching your pardon, Áine

Micca, best wishes. One tip: wait till AFTER the op before asking the proctologist if he's looke up any old friends later!
RtS (of whom it has often been said:" I don't know how he has the gall to tell that joke/try to sing that song".
