Does anyone know who wrote the song about a failed marriage containing the memorable line
The Only Good Years that we had were the tyres in the car

It sounds like a line John Prine might have written, but beyond that I haven't a clue. I'd sure like to hear it, though.

Aloha,
Mark

Sounds like a Loudon Wainwright 111 line and sentiment

The song is called "The Good Years". It was written by Richard Goldman and appears on his 1997 album 'Girls 'n' Cows' (Gadfly Records)

The only additional lyrics I've found so far are:

If you don't recall when my head hit the wall
Allow me to show you the scar
The only good years that we had
Were the tires on the car

Regards

Ed

Hilarious! Reminds me of:

I had someone else
Before I had you
And I'll have someone after you're gone
Sweethearts and Streetcars
Don't worry me
They'll soon be another one along
Don't have to stay
Leave any day
Iv'e got a swingin' door right in my heart
And it swings either way
I've had someone else
Before I had you
And I'll have someone after you're gone

PS: if you find your lyrics..please post...
~Elle

Refresh.

Can anyone supply the rest of the words?

Details of the album, including a sound sample of said song, can be found on this page at Amazon.

Guest, I have a version sung by Iain MacKintosh on a tape somewhere and will try to dig it out - it isn't long. But just now there are too many other problems ... Thanks for digging out this thread, at any rate. I'll save it and come back to it.
