Well, ya gotta give Trump credit for always having new tricks up his sleeve. The FBI has been quietly investigating the Trump campaign for its ties to Putin and Russia. It also not-so-quietly investigated Hillary Clinton for her use of email as Secretary of State. So, 6 months after the election, Trump uses Comey's handling of the Clinton matter during another President's administration, as grounds for firing an FBI director who is currently investing Trump.

Could it be that Comey was getting close to proving the involvement of Trump himself in the Russian conspiracy?

An interesting matter, indeed.

Is it time to impeach him yet?

But seriously, Trump is to have an important meeting tomorrow.
He is meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister.

Trump said he fired Comey for not being nice to Hillary over her emails.

The recused Jeff Sessions is the one who was said to ask Trump to fire Comey.

Tommorrow Senator Schumer will ask for a special prosecutor at 9 AM - or the democrats will essentially go on strike.

You can't make this stuff up.


There is a chance that Trump may be successful in stonewalling this "fake Russian Collusion thing". Putting troops in the field usually helps change the subject.

It will take a deepthroat or a sacrificial lamb to deliver a coup de grace in the form of the truth about the Russian Trump oil deal.
If no one steps forward, this mess will continue until it feels boring or becomes a race to impeachment.

The congressional investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian hackers is nothing more than window dressing, employing only 9 staffers (this compared to 40 dedicated to the Benghazi investigation). Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a Trump appointed hatchet man, obviously has no interest or intention to investigate. The only viable investigation into Trump campaign's possible collusion with Russia WAS the one being headed by FBI Director Comey, now fired by the very object of his investigation.
If the Republicans in Congress don't immediately call for a special investigator and a FULL investigation, one can only assume that they are even willing to accept a treasonous president, as long as he is from their own party. The very foundation of our democracy is in the balance here. If the President gets away with this now, what will he try next.

Here's a prediction:

Comey was very popular within the FBI in spite of his shortcomings so there are a lot of unhappy folks in the organization. Sometime soon a plain brown envelope will appear in the inbox of the Washington Post or the New York Times and the whole Russian thing will explode.

I do not believe Comey 'had it coming' in that he served his country poorly or with negative motives. On the other hand, Comey was on dicey political ground months ago. He went into detail on his Hilary investigation last Summer. He was the source of Election 2016's October Surprise. He made the comment before Congress that it made him slightly nauseous to think he might have had an effect on the 2016 Presidential election. He was allowed to stay in office until he could be questioned in front of Congress. He is not going anywhere other than out of office. The investigation into Russian manipulation of U.S. electoral politics goes on.
The President can reference a document by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to justify his action.
Trump has already proved himself a master at diverting attention from important issues.
We need to pay attention to Paul Ryan and what he and his crew are trying to do to health care. We need to pay attention to Trump's flouting of established policy on separating private business interests from the public interests he has sworn to represent. We need to pay attention to getting his tax returns released.
Eyes on the ball, people. Yes, that would be the 'money' ball. It always is.

Comey is an awkward case. He seems to be an honest guy who was just out of his depth... and thus able to upset all sides. Latest evidence is that he was trying to do the Trump/Russia investigation, but as soon as he got on the right track, Trump used those earlier mistakes to get rid of him.... making it hard for pundits to do their usual simplistic analysis. It is just too much trouble for most of them to clarify that 'maybe he should have been fired, but NOT that way and not at that time with those lame excuses.'

   Trump is also an awkward case... he does so many dumb, hateful, embarrassing, contradictory and traitorous crap that it's hard to keep track of the current line of BS.
