An explanation or a link would have been nice, but I'm pretty used to having to figure out what the hell people are talking about without help.
Since I was at an appointment with the doctor who did my skin cancer surgery, I missed the live version.
So while Greg was vague, Joe was downright snotty, and I'm undoubtedly something.
McCain was simply desperate and sad, and I could see all the little animated "WTF"s dancing around his head as he tried to figure out what McCain was getting at. Judging by today, he ought to retire.

Well, gee,I had work to do and did not have time to watch the Comey testimony. I have listened to half an hour of NPR special coverage of the testimony, with no mention of McCain. And yesterday I was chided for not knowing what people thought of Theresa May. Nobody wants to actually give opinions or information. They just want to put down others for not knowing. That sucks.

NPR broadcast the public hearings live, bless'm, and I heard McCain take his turn with some incredulity. He seemed to barely be aware of who the current players were. Tonight I've heard him make the excuse that he was very tired. This is possible, but what's obvious is he needed an excuse to attempt to explain his lack of awareness and patently ridiculous attempt to paste Comey with bias by trying to politicize differences between the results of the Hilary Clinton email probe and the current Trump Campaign Russia probe.
Meanwhile FOX radio and their remaining talking necks, specifically Sean Hannity, are bathing in the waters of Alternate Reality.
McCain has in the past been sharp, humorous, partisan but with a heart. It is to be devoutly wished that he return to this posture.

What I see is a man who had a long standing habit of getting through a long hearing with a stiff drink. If he had started medication opioid or other for a backache, the reaction would have presented as we saw. He even asked for help at one point because of his confusion.

It does not look like cognitive disease to me. I "hope" not.

It seemed he was trying to be partisan but used such a poor example he could not extricate himself from the flawed premise. Perhaps he was given marching orders by the whip regarding his usual anti Trump rhetoric and the conflict resulted in his getting smashed instead.

The Russian connection here may have been Vodka.

I'm not satisfied. I think that when a person starts a thread, he owes it to the rest of us to tell us what he's talking about. I listened to 1-1/2 hours of post-testimony coverage on NPR this evening, and not a word was said about McCain. Now, after listening to the link that Jeri provided, I know why.

I continue to believe that the person who starts a thread owes us all the favor of giving us a little background information so we know that he or she is talking about. Would it have been too much to expect the original poster to say that McCain seemed confused, or deceptive, or whatever?

I continue to believe that there's too much of this crap in the BS forum. It seems the Usual Suspects who have bullied their way into dominance over this forum, actually have very little to say and very little desire to say anything that might lead to actual discussion. They're too eager to get past that part so they can get onto their battle with the Usual Scapegoats again.

All I'm asking for, is that we make a practice of having actual human discussion in these threads - not links, not telling people to Google it, not castigating people for not already knowing, and not the usual bullying and name-calling. I want to see actual discussion.

But maybe the Usual Suspects aren't capable of actual discussion.

And that being said, I have to say that I was saddened by John McCain's performance during the hearing. He seemed very confused. He's one of the few Republicans who has shown the courage to stand up to Donald Trump. If he's lost his ability to ask sensible questions in a hearing, who's left to replace him?

That's a good one, Don but I disagree with most of what you wrote. Do you have any evidence that the Senator has substance abuse problems? And besides that hearing wasn't all that long by Senate standards and he only had 5 minutes worth of work to do (he rambled on past his time limit ignoring the gavel and finally Burr had to cut in and stop him). He just sounded like a confused old man to me. As they say in the sports world Father Time is undefeated.

McCain, as a moderate, was one of the few Republican senators I had much respect for back in the days when he used to work across the aisle but in an effort to keep his seat he compromised his principles and made a hard swing right during the Great Tea Party sickness.

The problem Joe, is that any time we try to have a serious discussion involving facts and controversial issues the moderators delete the posts or close the threads, yet allow the abusive people to fill the posts with junk.....so long as the abusers share the mods ideology.

There is extreme bias in the moderation here, I suggest one little conservative to ensure fair play....is that too much to ask?

I notice that you have been starting several threads lately with the potential to allow deep and honest discussion of issues which will be of great importance in the future. To discuss these issues, members would have to abandon their entrench social and political positions and examine the subject in an unbiased way.

That will never happen when moderation itself is biased.

I don't ever diagnosis some one I have not done a face-to-face evaluation of, but it does appear that McCain was confused and possibly exhibiting some cognitive impairment. I am not a McCain fan, but he is one of the few Senators still in office who does occasionally stand up for the country instead of his party - not nearly often enough, but more so than any of the younger Senators, whether from the GOP or the Democrats.

Unfortunately, in this instance, he not only appeared confused, but was also attempting to play politics rather than engaging in statesmanship.

Our federal government lacks any statesmen/women at all at present.
