After his performance today, the only graceful thing for him to do - or for those that are caring for him to make sure he does- is to ride off gracefully into the sunset before he embarrasses himself, his constituency, and his country any further.

You wonks always expect us to read the same propaganda you read....

Do you speak English well enough to explain what you're talking about, or is the extent of your knowledge at its limit when you make a link?
And not even a link this time.

Joe doesn't know how to use Google.
Here ya go, Joe:McCain's questions to Comey

All McCain wanted to talk about was the done & dusted Hillary email thing. He didn't seem to understand it was over last July, and still wants to go after her. It seemed like he was just looking for reasons to be adversarial, and it sounded desperate enough for me to think his marbles may be rolling down the street.

Propaganda, Joe?

Now the broadcast/televised verbatim proceedings of the inquiry are to you propaganda?

Anyone who has taken the time to be informed about the Comey hearings/testimony knows EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

If you can't be bothered to keep up with current events and/or to educate yourself about important issues it doesn't behoove you to piss on those who have taken the time and trouble to be better informed than yourself.

Give it a freakin rest, eh?

An explanation or a link would have been nice, but I'm pretty used to having to figure out what the hell people are talking about without help.
Since I was at an appointment with the doctor who did my skin cancer surgery, I missed the live version.
So while Greg was vague, Joe was downright snotty, and I'm undoubtedly something.
McCain was simply desperate and sad, and I could see all the little animated "WTF"s dancing around his head as he tried to figure out what McCain was getting at. Judging by today, he ought to retire.

You're undoubtedly pretty rational & even-handed. Thanks ;>)

I'd have thought anyone paying attention to what was going on wouldn't need a link - but I stand corrected & will so provide in future, just to be sure.

Best,

Greg.

He also called Flynn "Comey".

Reminds me of NRA schill Charlton Heston & taking his Davy Crockett rifle from his cold, dead brain.

But at least McCain may have a medical condition to explain his bizarre defense of President Lying Sack Of Shit.

The rest of the Republican establishment have no such excuse.

Well, gee,I had work to do and did not have time to watch the Comey testimony. I have listened to half an hour of NPR special coverage of the testimony, with no mention of McCain. And yesterday I was chided for not knowing what people thought of Theresa May. Nobody wants to actually give opinions or information. They just want to put down others for not knowing. That sucks.
And it's it what I consider to be intelligent discussion.

NPR broadcast the public hearings live, bless'm, and I heard McCain take his turn with some incredulity. He seemed to barely be aware of who the current players were. Tonight I've heard him make the excuse that he was very tired. This is possible, but what's obvious is he needed an excuse to attempt to explain his lack of awareness and patently ridiculous attempt to paste Comey with bias by trying to politicize differences between the results of the Hilary Clinton email probe and the current Trump Campaign Russia probe.
Meanwhile FOX radio and their remaining talking necks, specifically Sean Hannity, are bathing in the waters of Alternate Reality.
McCain has in the past been sharp, humorous, partisan but with a heart. It is to be devoutly wished that he return to this posture.

Joe, it's not that you didn't know, it's that you jumped all over Greg because you didn't know.
I had an hour round trip to my dermatologist, and before that mowed the lawn, and went to the gym. Somehow, I still found the time to go to Google.news and type "McCain" in. I confess, I needed to lie down for a while after doing all that typing, but I still managed to figure it out.

What I see is a man who had a long standing habit of getting through a long hearing with a stiff drink. If he had started medication opioid or other for a backache, the reaction would have presented as we saw. He even asked for help at one point because of his confusion.

It does not look like cognitive disease to me. I "hope" not.

It seemed he was trying to be partisan but used such a poor example he could not extricate himself from the flawed premise. Perhaps he was given marching orders by the whip regarding his usual anti Trump rhetoric and the conflict resulted in his getting smashed instead.

The Russian connection here may have been Vodka.

I'm not satisfied. I think that when a person starts a thread, he owes it to the rest of us to tell us what he's talking about. I listened to 1-1/2 hours of post-testimony coverage on NPR this evening, and not a word was said about McCain. Now, after listening to the link that Jeri provided, I know why.

I continue to believe that the person who starts a thread owes us all the favor of giving us a little background information so we know that he or she is talking about. Would it have been too much to expect the original poster to say that McCain seemed confused, or deceptive, or whatever?

I continue to believe that there's too much of this crap in the BS forum. It seems the Usual Suspects who have bullied their way into dominance over this forum, actually have very little to say and very little desire to say anything that might lead to actual discussion. They're too eager to get past that part so they can get onto their battle with the Usual Scapegoats again.

All I'm asking for, is that we make a practice of having actual human discussion in these threads - not links, not telling people to Google it, not castigating people for not already knowing, and not the usual bullying and name-calling. I want to see actual discussion.

But maybe the Usual Suspects aren't capable of actual discussion.

And that being said, I have to say that I was saddened by John McCain's performance during the hearing. He seemed very confused. He's one of the few Republicans who has shown the courage to stand up to Donald Trump. If he's lost his ability to ask sensible questions in a hearing, who's left to replace him?

Joe to turn a public forum into an accurate historic chronicle would take a body of Senators only, then the amount of editing would be enormous.

What you would end up would be polished crap with an agenda highlighted by the editor. Its a big job but you could do it.

But seriously the potential of BS is much higher than its inherited reality. Ah the good old days...

Mc Cain has a hangover today. He'll be back feisty as ever.

"The Russian connection here may have been Vodka."

That's a good one, Don but I disagree with most of what you wrote. Do you have any evidence that the Senator has substance abuse problems? And besides that hearing wasn't all that long by Senate standards and he only had 5 minutes worth of work to do (he rambled on past his time limit ignoring the gavel and finally Burr had to cut in and stop him). He just sounded like a confused old man to me. As they say in the sports world Father Time is undefeated.

McCain, as a moderate, was one of the few Republican senators I had much respect for back in the days when he used to work across the aisle but in an effort to keep his seat he compromised his principles and made a hard swing right during the Great Tea Party sickness.

Abuse naw. Accidental at most. The capitol building is full of liquor.

There is a right wing book called 'shattered' which traces what McCain was trying to reflect but lost the book's absurd speculations regarding Hillary Russian connections.   John will snipe Trump again, don't worry. All in all this is not an Epic Fail by McCain.

This is his last term so he can go as rogue as he wants before his final goodbye.

The problem Joe, is that any time we try to have a serious discussion involving facts and controversial issues the moderators delete the posts or close the threads, yet allow the abusive people to fill the posts with junk.....so long as the abusers share the mods ideology.

There is extreme bias in the moderation here, I suggest one little conservative to ensure fair play....is that too much to ask?

I notice that you have been starting several threads lately with the potential to allow deep and honest discussion of issues which will be of great importance in the future. To discuss these issues, members would have to abandon their entrench social and political positions and examine the subject in an unbiased way.

That will never happen when moderation itself is biased.

you've heard.

Context is important. If you start a thread, it's helpful to give just a little context. I'm really not asking for very much

If you guys could find something more petty to fight about, maybe you could fuck up some even more threads. One of the things about why Mudcat isn't worth it is that people get in really stupid fights that interrupt threads. Another is when people don't know what's going on, and instead of simply asking, they lash out at people. As in Joe, with his "you wonks". As in accusing somebody of slander. It may be this senility thing is just going around, and this anger is based on THAT, but it's still annoying as hell. Next time, just ask, OK? Don't come in swinging at whoever happens to be reading your shit.

Not about McCain - yes we can Goggle but I don't. I (Yapoo because I am an anarchist)

But I get e-mails on my chosen subject, folk events. The informants do the same, tell me there is an event and expect me to open an .emz file fer gawds sake. All it takes is short text and we have a handle, in my case "date, type and who".

Goggle is wide and very selective from your history of searches and delivers a different set of results for any one person. viz one free-wheeling person searching Egypt gets holidays another might get all political stories. Goggle is biased. To YOU!

It is all about communication, folks. Giz a clue.

There are many people even here who assume they should be the arbiter of our thoughts, actions, responses, even thread titles that are obscure enough to inspire curiosity. I am guilty of this to a degree when I criticize something.
It is impossible to agree on everything so it is a given disagreements abound.

In the wisdom of Sum Por Sol it is said "Can't we all get along"?

Hell no.

That's what diplomacy, manners, etiquette and a modicum of decency is for. With free speech everything is game, even decency. Brits know this better than Americans.
Or we can believe in the delusion a civil war will solve anything.

So long Sen. McCain is an entirely appropriate title. He is not running for re-election.

Meanwhile, back to the topic of the OP.

I don't ever diagnosis some one I have not done a face-to-face evaluation of, but it does appear that McCain was confused and possibly exhibiting some cognitive impairment. I am not a McCain fan, but he is one of the few Senators still in office who does occasionally stand up for the country instead of his party - not nearly often enough, but more so than any of the younger Senators, whether from the GOP or the Democrats.

Unfortunately, in this instance, he not only appeared confused, but was also attempting to play politics rather than engaging in statesmanship.

Our federal government lacks any statesmen/women at all at present.

Our very own Janie is far too ethical to diagnose by hearsay.

There is a rule by the APA American psychiatric association called the Goldwater rule to prevent making professional diagnosis of Presidential candidates. It goes back to Barry Goldwater.

However scores of psychiatrists have broken that rule and are on record with the NYT that Donald J Trump is
;^?

sic. looser with the truth than a goose, nuttier than squirrel poop, history adverse and fact perverse, an irrational international, is a Cosby apologist - out of envy, has a liquid gold fetish, Has a sense of grandeur that his breasts are bigger than his wife, is a maniac narcissistic Narcissus, has rats in the attic and bats in the Mara Lago belfry, a cheating cowardly bully, doesn't take 'know' for an answer but is a name caller extraordinaire (for a fifth grader)

To hold a serious job like a CEO that has a board, he would be immediately dismissed.
But the Presidency is apparently a different matter. It is said e doesn't know better. Forgive him Lord for he does not know what he does unless he personally profits.

Apologies to the real Psychiatric diagnosticians.

That's Entertainment - or is it?

A clown with his pants falling down
Or the chief who tweets for relief
Or the show where the fired would go
That's entertainment!
The lights on the wife in tights
Or the bribe that the White House hides
Or the war that the Navy ignores
That's entertainment!
The plot can be hot, grabbing for sex
A President who is suing his ex
It could be Narcissus Rex
Trump picks a Nazi and envies Bill Cosby
The clerk who is thrown out of work
By the boss who is thrown for a loss
By the skirt who is doing him dirt
The world is a stage; the stage is a world of entertainment!
It might be a fight like you see on the screen
A wussy grabs pussy then insults the queen
Some great Shakespearean scene
Where everyone cries over incredible lies
Hip hip hooray! Its the American way
The world is a stage; the stage is a world of entertainment!

This month, Senator McCain is laying low,
while the other congressmen phone him and then
tell the news media that they phoned McCain just to make sure
that he's still holding his own.

Hopefully that means he learned something
about when to stand up to be counted
and when to hang in there treating the side effects of his treatment.

And I hope he is still alive next year maybe.
