Many years ago I heard this song but I have retained only the chorus which is: Whippoorwill, Whippoorwill When you hear the fiurst whippoorwill call   Meet me, darling, please meet me    When you hear the first whippoorwill call.   I would love to have the complete lyrics and a viodeo would be great!

Blue Clicky for topical tom. ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R19NfxsyTrs

Also another cover,

Lulubelle & Scotty

Also found a 1934 recording by "Skyland Scotty" sans Lulubelle.

No joy finding the lyrics yet, tt. You may have to resort to transcribing them.

Both those recordings are good - words are perfectly clear.

The song was originally called THE WHIP-POOR-WILL'S SONG. It was written by Harrison Millard and published in 1865.

Lyrics and links to sheet music have been posted in another thread: Lyr Req: Whip-Poor-Will's Song (Harrison Millard).

It is a very common thing that compound words that we now spell without hyphens were once spelled with hyphens. This is a good thing to keep in mind when searching for old music.
