so would anyone like to talk about the election results and what is emerging since then.

I have my doubts about brexit ever occurring in the near future. Also,to my utter dismay, I see a real opportunity for Corbyn to become PM not too far down the road. Looks like the Tories cockiness has left them vulnerable. Who in their right mind calls a snap election to end up throwing away a reasonable majority.

Well I've always been an advocate of tactical voting to keep the Tories out (in my view, the absolute top priority in UK politics). No more. The insipid LibDems sold us tactical voters down the river by joining Cameron in a shabby coalition, in effect a solid Tory government, and their most recent campaign was totally lacklustre. It's conceivable that the advice to vote tactically for the LibDems in Truro and Falmouth, my daughter's constituency, actually handed the seat to the Tories, as Labour's surge was massive and only a few thousand short. Anything can happen from now on, it seems. Ditch tactical voting! Vote with your heart!

i don't know why they had the referendum. none of the frontline politicians seem to believe in it. obviously to appease part of the tory party - but no one else seemed to have that bee in their bonnet.

i voted against going in in 1974 and voted for getting out. but it wasn't an obsession with me.

having worked in Spain and Germany as a muso - i always felt the EU was a mess. as an agreement , it was obviously as full of holes as a swiss cheese - which all the other countries seemed smart enough to exploit.

i can see no one who has the will to even conduct the brexit negotiation.
i can't see Corbyn being PM. but on the other hand i didn't foresee him doing as well as he did.

The anti-Corbyn chatter is belly-up. The right have got to find something else to bellyache about now. They played all the cards in their hand before the election. And could he really be a worse bloody disaster that Theresa May? Queen of the balls-ups. Wot I said in another thread:

"Brexit means brexit" was a balls-up, calling the election was a balls-up, the manifesto was a balls-up, trying to make herself presidential was a balls-up, the emphasis on attacking Corbyn's character was a balls-up, her post-election Downing Street speech was a balls-up, not talking to the Grenfell residents was a balls-up, the choice of the white, male, upper middle-class judge is looking like a balls-up. The public sector pay cap issue is going to blow up in her face and she's boxed herself into a corner over it. She found a magic money tree to buy off a bunch of sectarian terrorist-sympathisers (what price Jezza, "friend of Hezbollah and Hamas," now?) but can't find a similar amount to lift the pay cap. You may think Corbyn will be a disaster. I think you're wrong. But what we do have is the most disastrous prime minister in history unrolling one massive misjudgement after another. He couldn't do worse, could he!
