i a very surprised we are not hearing more about the spiritual and even musical aspects of the eclipse...i have seen playlists..total eclipse of the sun, here comes the sun, bad moon on the rise...and just seems like we should be hearing more about the druids and wiccans and various events being planned...should we not be dancing naked somewhere? this is a huge event and all we really hear about where i am is the traffic jams...which are going to be of cosmic proportions perhaps...

Well, there's You're So Vain by Carly Simon.

I know of a few songs about comets, especially Halley's Comet, but not much about eclipseses.
Well I hear you went up to Saratoga and your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear Jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well you're where you should be all the time
And when you're not you're with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and...

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you
    Don't you? don't you? don't you?

And of course, Bonnie Tyler sang Total Eclipse of the Heart at sea on an eclipse cruise today. Her voice has lost a bit of quality since she made this recording in 1984. Sounds like she's got smoker's voice, but she still put a lot of heart into the performance.

Where indeed? After all, there are enough songs referring to a blue moon, and solar eclipses are about six-and-a-half times more often.

(7 blue moons in 19 years, 240 eclipses a century, thank you Wiki).

Or, of course, anything from Pink Floyd's "Dark side of the moon".

It seems ABC News are ahead of us with a full playlist.

Cheers

"Concerning the Eclipse" is a song on the album Casablanca by the band Casablanca. Members included David Costa and Barry Clarke, both formerly of Trees. The LP was released on Elton John's Rocket label in 1973. The lead vocal is by Juanita Franklin. The lyrics seem to draw an analogy between the inevitability of a relationship and an eclipse: "We could sing about falling into line, cosmically defined, the movements of the stars, the patterns in the cards... Like the Sun and the Moon, above the same hill at noon, fatefully reborn together..."
