Imagine thought and intelligence advancing half a million years in six months. In an AI arms race, a six month head start would have an unimagined advantage. Defense scientists are correct that a AI advantage is both dangerous to ourselves and from our adversaries like Russia.

We send our kids to University to become smarter, we will use CRISPR to make our children smarter, we will use AI to have smarter systems.
When a self improving AI gets to a thinking rate a million times faster than humans and let it run for six months, at the end of six months we will be like the ant intelligence compared to a human.

25 years ago in Boston I met famous pioneers of AI who spoke of this issue. The issue is now here. In 50 years we will know how it all turns out and if humans are even the same species by then.

Smarter may not be better. After all, Trump outsmarted us all even if you knew he would win. I believe Educating ourselves about AI is more important than nukes.
btw. Of course we send our kids to University for more reasons than getting smarter.
