Eff me.. I never realised North Korea was so tiny...

[but then again, I did fail Geography O Level twice in 1975... before giving up trying...]

.. well we live and learn...

So.. anything else factual surprised any of you recently...?????

I am not yet aware of that in which I am unaware.

If I was to become aware of all that I do not know I would have to increase my knowledge base by ;

In other words I know very little compared to all that I do not know.

However AI can. This why I posted an unanswered warning just this week regarding Artificial Intelligence.

Perhaps the question is "what have you learned recently?"

I have learned to see the subtle difference between Russian fake news propaganda, real investigative journalism and shock jock propaganda.

The difference is like that between a lunatic, an avaricious mad man and a Constitutional law professor.

i remember i was forty odd driving to a gig somewhere, and Christy Moore was being interviewed on Radio 4's Front Row.
Christy said, the very worse thing an artist can do is forget his roots...

So I thought to myself, what ARE my roots? Easy for you to say that, charming Irishman!
So I thought about my family.....both sides.
It was then I thought, oh bugger! I'm Irish as well....
Bloody hell.....I never knew that!!????

Anyway I did another gig somewhere. Still not referencing my roots. I think maybe some of us colour our roots...like some people colour their hair and forget what the original colour was.

Where in the world is Mannifort? There are rumors he flew to Iraq or the Ukraine. If you know, Mueller would like to hear from you.

Looks like North Korea is about the same area as the State of New York, 1/3 the size of California, and 1/5 the size of Texas.

North Korea has a population of 25.37 million. California has 38,332,521; Texas 26,448,193; New York 19,651,127.

"I'm Irish as well...."
I have a relative by marriage with an Irish name who always insisted he wasn't Irish until someone in his family began to dig through the roots and traced the origin back to an enthusiastic priest with a bike!
Surprise-surprise

yes if Irish people were black - it would be more difficult to forget your roots. having said that - theres quite a lot of black UK citizens, whose grandparents and parents were born in brum or london or manchester, never been abroad, no desire to go abroad....some of us DO forget our roots.

Donuel must be a genius.
In order to know everything Donuel only needs to double Donuel's present knowledge.

Or else Donuel's knowledge of percentages needs some work :)

I thought I knew what I was thinking. I was thinking I know very little.

Old Dude there is a commission in hell that decides who deserves a personalized or generic hell. There have already been meetings regarding Trump's upcoming status. Rumor has it that Trump will be the quarterback for the New Helland Patriots.
Donald, welcome to the NFL.

Nigel, just as my parents promised the older I get the more I would realize how little I know. The feeling of knowing almost everything would peak around 19 years old.

When I was 21 I sat in a toilet cubicle in the office where I was doing a shite clerical job
to pay the rent while our band was struggling to make it..

Anyway I was sat in there hiding from the misery of suit and tie office life,
when I suddenly had the most despairing realisation that I could never know everything...
I was not as special and gifted as family and teachers had brainwashed me to believe...

I wonder how many folks have committed suicide in office toilets....???

yes i had a period like that.

i was 16 - on the 7th floor of Exeter tech college in the laboratory.

there was a hill opposite, and on the hill was a cemetry. the graves looked like confetti on the green hill.

it suddenly occurred to me that even if i dismantled the universe and found out everything about every atom in existence - one day i would be one of those pieces of confetti.

I remember now that my 7th grade friend Warren Fries came face to face with the idea of his mortality while having lunch at his home one mid summer day. He was driven to tears. I was surprised and thought he was unusually old to discover being and not being. At least his mom was there to help at the time. We parted ways after he killed a great snowy white owl the next spring.

I suppose religious training may delay such self realizations.
I think I was about 4 when I had the powerful experience that my life was like a movie and it had a beginning and end.

So now President Trump is requiring certain behaviors and postures in Stadiums. So I looked up what Hitler demanded in terms of behaviors and actions that were taught beforehand and learned by rote.

Yep lots of postures were taught. The salute was to remain constant while 3 Heil Hitlers were shouted by all in the Stadium.

Todays tweet was, the NFL will do as I say or they'll go to Hell.

It was on a course called "Creative Management" I was sent on that one thing they came up with. It was about creativity not management - I found out eventually.

Everything wears out.

Yea you knew it sort of. You repair. You buy new. But when you are creating something, the life-time of a product may not be part of the design.
Clothes soften until they tear, shoes abraid to the uppers or fall apart, cars/bikes rust but there is always that new shining thing that is better anyway, so more rarely do you keep things to their end point. I did when I was an apprentice, but as the years and salary lengthen, and time shortens you forget.

And with the advance od credit cards and NFC phone apps - it looks like paper and nickel (steel now) are wearing thin. Just like Gold and Silver did.

Virtually all our containment vessels for nuke plants were designed to be scraped 29 years ago. They are made of steel and age very rapidly due to neutron bombardment. They get very brittle. A quick shut down could kill the vessel. CRACK damn, it wore out

The average age is 30 now. The older reactor vessels were licensed to go another 20 years beyond design limits. They are about to get another license to go another 20 years. This is like playing Press Your Luck.

I am betting that the nuke plant in Rochester NY will show the world how stupid and greedy our Energy Dept became.

We all know what it takes to get town hall to install a traffic light.

You can not scram an old reactor. You need days to shut down slowly.
Its good the nuke plants in Florida had days to shut down.
You don't have days with earthquakes or tsunamis.
The problem is that all our reactors are old or very old.
Like climate deniers there are Regulatory guys out there that say "If they went to 40, why not 60 or a hundred?"
Life is an experiment.

Volcanos are erupting under one mile of ice in Antarctica.
The effect is like losing a Mt Everest weight in ice in a very short time. The water melt is measurable. Sea level rise should accelerate beyond forecasts.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/next/earth/scientists-identify-91-volcanoes-under-antarctic-ice-sheet/

Of the 138 volcanos under a mile of Antarctic ice we still do not know how many are active or dormant...Edinburg University.

I did not know this!
