Entertaining and interesting 3 part reality documentary series
about a group of minor UK celebrity old folks on a challenging exploration
of legalised cannabis culture in California and Colorado.

Just over 2 weeks left to watch on ITV catch up...

https://www.itv.com/hub/gone-to-pot-american-road-trip/2a5248a0001

The road trip scenery looks wonderful and the music soundtrack is an indulgent treat of old hippy nostalgia...

Then there was the milkman who was prosecuted for delivering 'pot' to some of his elderly customers.
Mudcat Song Challenge

Nice to be reminded of it :)

Cheers

Music and scenery don't change anything. Marijuana is bad for people. Thanks to it, I have three relatives who cannot think straight.

There are plenty enough folks who've never touched pot at all,
and have never been able to think straight...

..many of them in positions of power and responsibility....

Countless studies have shown it to be relatively harmless, much less so than many other legal substances such as alcohol and tobacco to name two.

BTW.. I neglected to mention that the agenda of this UK docu-tainment series is fairly well balanced either side for and against...

Now, the FDA is trying to ban kratom. It's a plant from SE Asia. It's effective for pain (as effective as oxycodone, IMO), it helps people get off and stay off opiates. It tastes like (as the Liberal Redneck put it) wood elf cum. I don't know about that, but I think it's worse. The FDA says it's deadly and addictive. The only reported deaths were people who took a shitload of other drugs, and I've been addicted to nicotine and felt the pull of oxy (but was well managed).
They can't ban the plant, so they're trying to prevent importation.

In short, it helps people, it does make you feel good, but I wouldn't call it a "high", it's not dangerous, and it's cheap. So drug companies can't make money from it.

Sound familiar?

I never liked weed much, so it wasn't worth the risk, and it provoked paranoia. Last time I took it, I actually hallucinated. That NEVER happened in the 70s! Kinda cool, kinda annoying. The munchies are a bitch when you have GERD, and probably if you're on a low-stuff or no-stuff diet. I'm thinking salt-free kale chips aren't all that exciting. Plus, I think it's harder to find. Hell, I'd love to try mushrooms, but do you think any old farts I hang with are into that shit? Sometimes, I regret not having kids. "Sweetie, would you go out and buy momma some 'shrooms? Momma's friends say they give 'em gas, and there's nothing as scary as psychedelic farts."

Jeri when big pharma makes & sells synthetic kratom it will be legal.

It is not cynical to say the same about synthetic heroin because it is still happening, AND STILL KILLING.

The big pharma heroin drug dealers will not serve a day in prison.
THE VICTIMS HOWEVER WILL.

POT SONG
Jeremy Taylor

I smoke a lot of pot, man,
It helps me to keep sane.
I sometimes have a shot of cocaine.
Just a little puff,
Helps me to unwind.
And when I've had enough
Oh, I really blow my mind.
Ring a Ring 'o' roses, a pocket full of pot,
Hash and cannabis resin, I've smoked the lot.

The whole song is in This Jeremy Taylor thread

Jeri, mushrooms from the Amazon, amazonia cubensis, are worth the wait at any age. Profound, wise and giving, their imagery could remind some of the Mayan figures found in their art. Scary? No.
A question answer dialog with the sacred mushroom is a wonderful scenario that is rewarding for years to come. My legal spore source always came from Hawaii and one never forgets the finer points of cultivation. Fresh is best but dried is tried and true.

Pot is a frivolous endeavor unless medically helpful.

To compare the two, pot anxiously paints cartoons inside the eyelids but the magic mushroom is a beautiful National Park with many Time trails to choose from. Hike to the future, hike to a past or bask in the comfort of the lodge. The Magic comes in the form of symbolic answers in a universal language. At least that is what surprised me.

the FDA is trying to ban kratom

From what I've read about that stuff it can't be too soon. All the addictiveness of opiates with much nastier side effects and less effective at pain relief.

I'd love to try mushrooms, but do you think any old farts I hang with are into that shit?

Psilocybe semilanceata mushrooms are very easy to find in Scotland in autumn, and probably anywhere with a similar climate where people raise sheep. The fields around Iona Abbey are heaving with them - I think that explains something about the designs in the Book of Kells (do Google image searches for "traditional psilocybe art mola" and "book of kells").

Many psylocybe varieties that turn bluish when lightly bruised can be found but there are only a couple ultimate giants.

I recommend these to be enjoyed and enlightened to; clergy, writers, politicians, inventors, artists and the common person who have a quest beyond silliness. Many famous people today know the secret.

Perhaps I was fortunate that my first experience involved having the movie 'Its a Wonderful Life' start on the TV just as the shrooms were merging with me.

There is nothing addictive in the taste or effects. Alkaloids are never delicious.

When I was in my late teens, we could nip outside of town to the sheep fields to pick our own,
safe in the knowledge that liberty caps were a natural free 'legal high'...
They were a significant part of 1970s brain cell destroying west country teenage hippy punk counter culture,
and our way of making the best of the local Autumn/Winter Carnival season, and a trip to Bridgwater Fair.

Mushrooms have in more recent years been declared by puritan politicians as highly illegal with all the risks and penalties to young students
that that entails...

Actually psilocybin has been touted as an effective treatment for depression that doesn't respond to conventional treatment.

The problem is that some depressed people do not want a cure, as crazy as that sounds. Change demands ambition and consent to change. sigh
