Subject: RE: Chord Req ASAP!!: Fairytale of New York From: Sam Hudson Date: 20 Dec 99 - 05:41 PM I don't know how to format this properly, I'm afraid, and this is very sketchy, but if your friend has only got until Friday... hope it makes some kind of sense! The chords aren't at all difficult, it's all in the timing... transpose to different keys as required, of course. ~~~~~~~~~~ (G )It was Christmas Eve, babe, (C ) in the drunk tank The old man said (G) "son, I won't see an (D)other one," And then he (G) sang a song, The Rare Old (C) Mountain Dew And I turned my (G) eyes away, and thought ab(D)out you (G) ~~~~~~~ You were (G) handsome and (C pretty, Queen (G) of New York (C) City When the (G) band finished (Em) playing the (C) crowd (D) howled for more(G) Sinatra was (C) swinging, and the (G) crowd started (C) singing As we (G )kissed in the (Em) corner and (C) danced round (D) the (G) floor And the (C) boys from the New York (Am) Police choir were (G) singing Galway (Em) Bay And the (G) bells were (C) ringing (D) out for Christmas (G) Day. ~~~~~~~~ I've always found it to be the kind of song where commitment of delivery is more important than getting it too polished! |

Subject: RE: Chord Req ASAP!!: Fairytale of New York From: SingsIrish Songs Date: 31 Jan 00 - 12:58 PM Hi John! I found complete lyrics and chords at the Christy Moore site as well... Christy Moore I did a search on Alta Vista and came up with 3 CDNow links that have various RealAudio snippets of the tune... I have heard a complete version of the Pogues with Kirsty MacColl...the song has "grown on me"...and I've gotten to like it very much--(Thanks Mick!) here are the snippets links: Album: Everybreath (James McNally--instumental) [This snippet features the melody for the opening "verse" cited above "It was Christmas Eve, babe, in the drunk tank...") Album: Just Can't Get Enough--New Wave (Pogues with Kirsty MacColl) (middle of "verse 2"--see full lyrics) Album: Edge of Christmas (Pogues with Kirsty MacColl) longer snippet including the "Refrain segments" I know these aren't the greatest--they are very piece-meal, but I hope it helps in some way.
