Subject: BS: Evolving bird song From: Donuel Date: 05 Apr 18 - 08:28 AM In the last 10 years I have heard the nesting birds in our window boxes change their song. They have gone from a distinct chee ba gah chee ba gah to cheat a-bow cheat a-bow. http://www.loe.org/shows/segments.html?programID=15-P13-00026&segmentID=7 I miss the cheese burger |

Subject: RE: BS: Evolving bird song From: Donuel Date: 05 Apr 18 - 08:51 AM Chee ba ga always sounded like John Belushi on sat nite live giving orders to his short order cook Dan Akroyd. I learned some female birds can not sing but instead have brain areas devoted only to judging song. |

Subject: RE: BS: Evolving bird song From: Murpholly Date: 06 Apr 18 - 04:56 AM Research undertaken in England has discovered birds change their songs and become louder in urban settings - especially London - presumably to announce their territory and find a mate over all the traffic noise. |

Subject: RE: BS: Evolving bird song From: robomatic Date: 06 Apr 18 - 02:29 PM I love nature, either in the wild, or in its ventures into urban settings. BUT: I strongly feel that if we could see into the nature that existed in the dinosaur era, our eyes, ears, and all other sensory apparati would be gobsmacked by our perceptions of beauty, awe, and mystery. There was more oxygen in the air, then. Dragonflies had 60 centimeter wingspans. |
