Last week you responded to my thread about Human Christmas and offered to e-mail the tune of the song from Quebec. Can you do that? I don't how else to get your attention but in this public way. Also, can you give me a translation? Tahnks and Peace, s. ike6681@cs.com

It's easy contacvting anybody on te Mudcat - you just go to quick links, click on Send a Message, and then type in the name of the person you want to send a message. Or go to bbc's mudcat resources, also in Quick Links, and see if there is an email address for the person in there (whichn there is for me.)

Anyway, I am glad you like this song, which I found in an anthology about Christmas published in 1928. I'll sing it into the co puter and send it to you as an email attachment. But not tonight, because it's past midnight now for me. But here is a rough translation for now.

D'ou viens-tu, bergere,
d'ou viens tu?
Je viens de l'etable,
De m'y promener;
J'ai vu un miracle
Ce soir arrive..

Qu'as tu vu, bergere,
Qu'as tu vu?
Ja vu dans la creche
Un Petit Enfant
Sur la paille fraiche
Mis bien tendrement.

Rien de plus bergere,
Rien de Plus?
Sainte Marie, sa mere,
Lui fait boire du lait,
Saint Joseph, son pere
Qui tremble de froid.

Rien de plus bergere,
Rien de Plus?
Ya la boeuf et l'ane
Qui sont par devant;
Avec leur haleine
Rechauffant l'Enfant.

Rien de plus bergere,
Rien de Plus?
Ya trois petits anges
Descendus du ciel,
Chantant les louanges
Du Pere Eternal.

Where have you come from, shepherdess?
where have you come from?
I come from the stable, walking
This very night I saw a miracle .

What did you see, shepherdess?
What did you see?
I saw a little child in the crib ,
lying on the fresh straw,
put there very tenderly.

Nothing more shepherdess?
Nothing more?
Holy Mary, his mother giving him milk to drink.
Saint Joseph, his father, shaking in the cold.

Nothing more shepherdess?
Nothing more?
The ox and the ass were standing beside the baby,
They were warming him with their breath.

Nothing more, shepherdess?
Nothing more?
There were three little angels,
come down from heaven.
They were singing the praises of the Eternal Father.

I love the picture of St Joseph shivering in the cold, and the cattle with their warm breath. Makes it real. and the three little angels.

Would you mind sending this song to me as well? I'd love to hear you singing it.

Merci beaucoup, Áine
