Subject: BS: Where are we Comedically ? From: Donuel Date: 10 Sep 18 - 03:39 PM arguments on joke threads, hecklers of comedians and boycotts of comedians at Universities, Don Rickles is evil ? Mel Brooks censored, What's happening? Meanwhile TV comedies animated or not are ubiquitous. Sasha Baron Cohen has shown us how primitive enemies of the enlightened truly are. It ain't pretty but it is funny. |

From: Stanron Date: 10 Sep 18 - 06:35 PM When I saw your 'Where are we Cosmically' thread I immediately thought that if we removed the 's' we could have a laugh at some of the more serious threads on the BS section. You've gone and done it for me. Cheers. |

Subject: RE: BS: Where are we Comedically ? From: Bill D Date: 11 Sep 18 - 05:06 PM The CNN series on "The History of Comedy" has some interesting explanations of where we are and how we got there. I'm still working my way thru my recordings. I am fascinated by the sadness and trauma behind the lives of many comedians. One of my complaints now is the claim that comedy is always 'pushing the boundaries'... and yet the boundaries of taste seem to be near tolerable limits. I miss Ernie Kovacs.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Where are we Comedically ? From: Donuel Date: 11 Sep 18 - 05:14 PM Even Steve Allen as a airline pilot who says to the co pilot 'Watch this' and grabs the microphone and shouts "Ladies and gentleman-BRACE YOURSELF THERE IS NO REASON TO BE ALARMED !!!" |
Subject: RE: BS: Where are we Comedically ? From: Steve Shaw Date: 11 Sep 18 - 06:45 PM Just watch all the Pink Panther films, then all the Naked Gun films, then Airplane! then Blazing Saddles then all twelve Fawlty Towers episodes. Then any Billy Connolly Youtube. That'll get you to stop bloody analysing and get you to start belly-laughing. Now that's what I call comedy! |

Subject: RE: BS: Where are we Comedically ? From: Steve Shaw Date: 11 Sep 18 - 07:12 PM Correct! |
Subject: RE: BS: Where are we Comedically ? From: Bill D Date: 11 Sep 18 - 08:54 PM Blazing Saddles was one of the funniest, most creative films I have ever seen. The amazing thing about Airplane was that it was a direct, almost line-by-line parody of a 'serious' black & white movie from about 1940. They simply tweaked the details a bit and it was hilarious. |

Subject: RE: BS: Where are we Comedically ? From: keberoxu Date: 13 Sep 18 - 02:43 PM That depends on which generation of comics you ask the question of. Tim Allen, whose network-television show credits now cross rival-network boundaries (ABC let him go), spoke up publicly in defense of Roseanne [Barr/Arnold], wanting to know whose idea it was to say what is permissible and what isn't -- Allen allows that Roseanne's network "did what they had to do," and also warns that it's a danger sign when comics get censored. |
Subject: RE: BS: Where are we Comedically ? From: Donuel Date: 13 Sep 18 - 03:14 PM Good comedy is truth sensitive and people today are being influenced by crazytown on both sides and are in chaos as to how to react to TRUTH. At least that's my explanation. Now back to our sponsor, Bible Guns, remember 2 out of 3 mass shooters prefer Bible Guns. They're holey. |
